Reducing non-Tesla access to the Supercharger network

Type 3 chargers are still showing as available to use at an open to all site I plan to stop at this Thursday.: Aimsbury, 9 of 16 stalls available right now.

https://tesla.com/findus is probably best to use as it should be up to date.

All the sites in Scotland (including one which I'm 99% sure is V3 superchargers - at Eurocentral) which were open to all earlier are still showing as such now.

The nearest ones to me that are open to non-Tesla are still showing on the app all be it at 65p peak/55p the rest of the time, not worth the round trip.

I think a lot of older chargers, not just Tesla ones will disappear and that will be a problem for a while. Going forward though charging life should be a lot simpler for everybody.

Has anything happened ? Has anybody tried a Supercharger ?

If you want to check the location of V4 chargers, open to all follow this link and use the filters (top left of page blue funnel symbol and select under Stall type and Open to)

Yes I tried the Superchargers at Exeter Tesla Service Centre on Tuesday November 19th. Despite assistance from a very helpful member of their staff, I could not make any of the three chargers we tried work. The contactless pad seemed to accept my credit card OK but after a few seconds repeatedly came up with a failed connection notification. The Tesla staff member seemed to think the problem was with the chargers not the car, but that was scant consolation. I went round to the Gridserve hub at the MOTO services and everything was fine.

How do you narrow it down to show V4s only on that site, should we ever need to ?

I'm not sure you can ... although a clue might be the power rating? (The ones at the site I believe are V3s show as 150kW, whereas the ones which I know are V4s show as 250kW)

You can't get a map, but if you click on a site it tells you what that site has. For a site like Trentham with V3 & V4, then click on details for how many of each.

Well it is November 26th and the Tesla app still seems to be advertising V2/V3 chargers for non-Tesla charging.

Anyone tried charging today?

Edit: I posted this before I saw the other thread, apologies.

I was going to use that Aimsbury one today. The kids are off school on a teacher training day and we were going to go to Stonehenge on the way to Wells for the weekend going to Longleat tommorow ( there is a big light festival thing on ) and somewhere nearby or not too far away like Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge or somewhere else on Saturday. Unfortunately however on Tuesday night at 11pm I accidentally gave my cat 1.5 of my sons vitamin D prescription tablets (900 milligrams in total) mistaking them for her antibiotics ( the wife was doing it previously and I thought I'd help!). We realised Wednesady morning when my son was due one of his tablets. Cat then had to go to vet as an emergency and be under observation ( too much vit D is toxic to them), bloods taken and be on a drip, plus an overnight observation and drip and hopefully should be given all clear around tea time tonight ( she hasnt showed any ill effects) . So we will hopefully drive down this evening probably getting to Wells about midnight. If the route selected takes me past Aimsbury (it's that way or the M4 depending on what the sat nav picks ) we may stop for a comfort break as its about half way so I still might get to try it. Nb the vets bill for just yesterday , overnight and today would pay for a home chargepoint installation or maybe even 2!.

Had a quick check on the app, the Adderstone and Harrogate chargers are still showing and there seem to be some new locations starting with the "(EV-OTM)" tag

EV On the move seems to be the EV part of EG On the move and mostly have forecourts in the North of England and away from the Motorways.

They use Tesla hardware and presumably their billing systems too, since Tesla drivers can use them just by plugging in as they do for superchargers. Last time I looked their pricing structure was different to Tesla with a more expensive rate than Tesla but still much cheaper than most of the competition.

Here's my report.

I drove south on 22nd November and charged on a V3 at Trentham Gardens with no trouble. I drove back on 24th November and all the V3s were taken, half of them by non-Teslas. There were a couple of V4s free so I got on one of these. But all the chargers, V3 and V4, were showing in my phone app. On that basis, V3s were still available to non-Teslas on the 24th.

However, on the 25th I checked the app for Eurocentral, and it said there were no chargers there. Heart fell into boots. But then - the twist in the tale - on the 27th I went to the Dakota Inn for dinner and saw that the chargers were covered by white dust-sheets. (Might have been a couple on the end, not sure, it was dark.) Anyway, they weren't available to anyone. Don't know what they're doing.

So now, I just checked Inverness, Aviemore, Perth and Fort William, and they're all showing as open to me. These are all V3 units. Only Eurocentral isn't showing, and as I said, now I know why.

I think it's good news.

From the "First Fight" thread there's references to information from Tesla forums, here my summary:

"Thanks again for this. I've read through in detail and my read is:
  • The sites that have already shut are the sites that opened a long time ago to non-Tesla users.
  • As you say, the 20 sites that opened in 29th April have until 29th April 2025 to comply.
  • Tesla plan to retrofit new payment terminals to their V2/V3 charger installations during 2025. It does not sound like they plan to upgrade them to V4, although that may happen over time.

So, depending on when these retrofits go ahead, we will likely get some further closures in April and then sites slowly coming back to public use as they are upgraded."
