I've had my MG4 for about three weeks now and really like the car. I have a problem though with the remote control function on the iSmart app. All the other functions on the app seem okay. Every time I try to use any of the remote control functions, unlocking, turning on air con etc, I get the message "remote control function failed please try again later (59).
Anyone else had the same problem?

If not plugged in it may be worth resetting the head unit? Nothing to lose

Reset the head unit by pressing for 10 sec on the home button

The main infotainment unit

Also just to confirm you can see the car status etc. and it does refresh which confirms car to server communication? It just does not allow app to car commands...is that correct?

OK, and it's the same using another device....just in case scenario

It’s not just you, I’ve had nothing but trouble with iSMART this week. It’s quite happy to ping and tell me about the constant airbag error messages but won’t do anything else. Refuses to update status or do anything ? seems like every time it’s cold out MG servers say no. Either that or whatever cell network they use has a dead spot on my driveway ?

I also have problems with the iSmart app not connecting to the car. I live at a location with poor mobile coverage, but if I drive 1km to where I get a good signal iSmart works (which is no good for preheating the car interior!).

I have just tried an EE sim in my mobile phone, and now I have a good signal on the phone, but iSmart still does not work at home, which points to the issue being a lack of connectivity between the MG and the network it uses.

Does anyone have any details of the car sim and the network iSmart uses?

It looks like you can give the car your home wifi password if necessary.

My SE LR does not have a Wifi or Wireless networks tab under settings on the headset. I see the iSmart manual notes these functions are not present on the TT colour radio. Does this mean I cannot connect my car to my home wifi?

Yeah no wifi on the SE. It’s great I’ve gone from a Corsa that had wifi but no function to use it whatsoever to the MG that doesn’t have it and really could do with it ?

Best option then is a signal booster at home.
Apologies I am confused...the esim has a signal issue and the se has no ability to connect to home WiFi so how does a home signal booster help? Can you explain ?

Ah OK a mobile signal booster, got it....but no idea how they connect to a "cell" and therefore the esim...any idea?

Found this

A signal booster only does its job if there's an available cell signal outside of your house. If you can't pick up a signal outdoors or need to drive a certain distance away from the house to make a call, this indicates there aren't any radio frequency waves for the booster to amplify.
