I have this tendency, when reversing, to not clip my seatbelt, to which my daughter quickly reminds me of the errors in my judgement. It appears my MG sees the same error in my way and will not allow me to reverse without my seatbelt clicked in.

More specifically, if attempting to reverse without a seatbelt on, it won’t disengage the park brake.

It doesn’t give the same care and attention if you’re moving forward though. Drive to your hearts content without a seatbelt on.

Am I the only one experiencing this oddity?

Press start up, then buckle up by that time the car will be in the ready mode. I have developed this as a matter of routine it works for me.
It also gives time for Android Auto to connect.

Not in my mk1

I agree with all re buckling up. It’s just odd the car requires me to be buckled into reverse, however doesn’t require the same condition going forward. never experienced it on a car before, or in a car.
