As I say, it's intermittent. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I think it did it when I first got the car and was trying to reverse it into my extremely narrow tetris garage, then it didn't do it for ages. It's probably been something like 80/20, not doing it/doing it. Just enough to make it irritating ?Mine lets me move in R or D without the seatbelt on and/or with a door open no problem.
IIRC, this used to be a problem with the early ZS ev if Auto hold was on, it doesn't make any difference on my 4 though, I have auto hold on.
It may be something to do with which update your car is on, mine's still on R33 (which is not the latest) with no problems.
80/20 is about normal for software glitches on mine.As I say, it's intermittent. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Funnily enough I tried this earlier for the first time when it didn't automatically release and it worked - obvious I suppose, thinking about it ?.Release the handbrake manually before selecting R. I've not tried it with the door open though,
Weirdly enough, another thing that happened just after I bought it in March and hasn't happened since... until today, is the steering wheel control not working or being verrrrrry delayed for radio volume.80/20 is about normal for software glitches on mine.
The radio not coming back on after losing the signal, Bluetooth not automatically connecting to my phone, the infotainment system taking 30 seconds or more to boot up and Android auto working as soon as I connect the cable to my phone all seem to work ok 80% of the time.
Can probably confirm what @OriginalBigAl says. We have to go through two gates to get up our track, and occasionally the car wouldn't go without putting the seatbelt back on. I then found that it's the parking brake. Just manually release that, and it goes without demanding the seatbelt is done up. This now works consistently. As one of the few and far between allowances for not wearing a seatbelt in the UK, why does my MG4 prevent me from moving when I'm in reverse until I connect my seatbelt ( sometimes) ?
It certainly makes it harder to do on purpose ? ... prevent just about covers it. ?It doesn’t prevent you. It makes it harder to do it by accident
Mine does this from time to time , to increase / decrease the volume try " double clicking" ie flick up once then press up again. It should not matter which pants you are wearing 70s or otherwise ,unless you have Bay City Rollers on the radio at the time!Funnily enough I tried this earlier for the first time when it didn't automatically release and it worked - obvious I suppose, thinking about it ?.
Not gonna try it with doors open if there's nasty grunching sounds and jolting involved though.

Probably due to solar flares ?
Now that you mention it.... ?. It's so rare I drive it I may just have forgotten about that {ahem}Mine does this from time to time , to increase / decrease the volume try " double clicking" ie flick up once then press up again.
