Hey, I'm an advocate for EVs and have been for years but they aren't right for everyone at the current state of play. I love holidaying and driving my EV in Scotland, The Lakes and the Wilds of Wales and I know that as a visitor I can usually plan carefully and so far I've not been caught out. However, I live down in Essex and the 163 official range of my current ZS translates to real-world 110 on the motorway in winter and 180 to 200 in summer is never a problem for me because these are the trips I do 48 weeks of the year. My daughter who also has a 2020 Gen 1 ZS however and commits via the M25 will often find she has to divert due to "incidents" on the motorway and long diversions have many times meant that I've had the call, "dad I'm nearly out where's my nearest Rapid?" For her, an MG HS Hybrid would work in one way and then she'd have the range flexibility. But I can appreciate that for #peteg, where 180 miles isn't enough for a daily driver, then an HS wouldn't work in pure range terms either. Although, when not in EV-Mode, with the terrain comprising frequent hills and dips the EV Assistance up hills and Regeneration down hills the (and forgive me I hate this Toyota marketing term) "Self Charging" aspect of its Hybrid mode rather than pure EV Mode could really cut costs and make for a smoother driving experience. Thanks for your replies and suggestions. As I said, the problem has not been charging at home, although it seems it would not be wise to charge to 100% on a regular basis. The problem for us has been the unexpected - out for the day and unexpectedly called to go somewhere else, or forced to make a detour because a road has been closed, and finding it difficult to get a top-up charge. The drop in battery performance due to the cold, while not unexpected, has exacerbated the issue. At the moment, for us, the electric car does not appear to be the answer.
