Should i buy phase one MG4 in 2024

Its not like the original phase/version cars are years old, there are very little difference between them fundamentally.

If you're going for a Trophy model the original version had 3 phase charging so can charge via the Type 2 connector at up to 11kW instead of 7kW.

You'll be missing a rear wiper and massive centre headrest that blocks the view of the area the wiper covers anyway. I prefer being able to see out the back without a wiper.
Buy this and you won't care about wipers (front or rear :)) https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000WAMI76

I've never missed the lack of a rear wiper. Not once.

That said, the presence or lack of a wiper would never be the dealmaker or breaker for me either.

Love my car, find MG frustrating, especially around service, comms and updates, but the car remains a brilliant drive at an amazing price. Every manufacturer has their own problems.

I have a September 2022 trophy.
The infotainment system is on r33 the only issue I used to have is Bluetooth disconnections but use android auto so that dosnt affect me. It may you. But the infotainment can be updated.

The rest of the cars module's were updated in December 2023.
I've never had an issue the emergency braking, it's never activated. It's beeped at me but that's all.

The lane keep assist rarely kicks in and isn't that bad when it does.

All I can suggest is make sure it has the latest updates
Dealers often say they will.do it but don't so if buying from an mg dealer get everything in writing.

Love mine. I have had my first service and had to go back straight after as it was limiting power over 50mph. Software updated and all good now. No issue with no rear wiper, only time it was was in the cold when i wiped it with my hands before leaving

They are essentially the same car. Apart from the rear wiper (I applied rain-X to the rear screen, no problem!) and the middle headrest (most owners seem to remove them as they block the view) and the 1-pedal driving (I wouldn’t want it, you also can’t use it if the battery is above 90% SOC), there is no real Difference. Oh I forgot the 19 inch wheels, personally I think the 17 inch are better as you have a deeper tyre, I also see a few people swapping their 18 inch wheels for 17 as they are better (and tyres are cheaper!).
Infotainment Software is the same on the earlier and later models, sometimes it hasn’t been updated but that seems to be because dealers don’t get paid to do it.

I have missed the rear wiper, not so much for water (though there is plenty of that, I live in Scotland) but for dust - I live in a rural area and there is often a fine coating kicked up by passing agricultural vehicles, which of course doesn't simply slide off.

Back to the OP's original question. The earlier cars should get the same updates as the later ones if the dealer has done their job properly.
As it's the earlier model check the car hasn't been bound to someone else's phone.
That's a good point Ian. When I bought my MG4 Xpower 2nd hand from a ev dealer, it was bound to someone else's phone. I contacted MG and they had problems helping and were of no use. In the end, i just messaged the previous owners number displayed on the screen in the car, and luckily they helped me out, and they unpaired their phone for me.
