Hi all. Yesterday I took my ZS Hybrid+ to the dealership and they checked for software updates and found one, which they applied. However, it concerned the navigation system, which I don’t use as I use Apple CarPlay.
Regarding the PD052 software update, they knew nothing about it. They are trying to discuss with MGUK, I must admit I’m not overly confident regarding a satisfactory outcome.
They also investigated the water in the near side door mirror lighting strip and have ordered a replacement part, this will be done under warranty.
I also drew the service managers attention to the fact, that when you lock the car, the tailgate remains UNLOCKED. He tried everything to get it to lock, but failed. He then walked away from the car holding the key fob, unlocking and locking it. However, it was not until he was 25 metres away, that the tailgate locked! He then explained that this was how it works.
I responded, so if you park outside of your house, a pub or shop, and go in, the tailgate remains unlocked. His suggestion was that I carry the key fob around in a metal box, I assumed he was joking.
This morning I went out to the car, leaving the key fob inside, the tailgate was unlocked, and had been all night.
They are looking into the matter…………

Attention to detail not their strongest point. “It’s a feature” isn’t something you can tell your insurance company when your expensive camera gets nicked from your boot while having lunch in a pub.
Equally, “It’s a feature” isn’t something you want to be told after colliding into oncoming traffic because you couldn’t accelerate past a tractor.

Maybe the car needs to be 25 meters away from the laptop before it pickups all available updates?

And as for the key fob, I’m sure a quick visit to any of the UKs nuclear reactors you’d be able to purchase some lead lined trousers.

It is not a feature.Sale of goods act needs to quoted. MG UK are treating their customers like mushrooms.

It is a feature of this car. I looked it up on Google after spending ages trying to lock the boot on a car park a few weeks ago.
If your key fob is in range of the car the boot will open without unlocking.
Supposed to help if you're laden with shopping bags etc.
Mine does automatically lock when I'm a few metres away or in the house. 👍

I'm not sure whether you can deactivate that separately, but I think you can set unlocking to driver door only; BTW, a Kia EV6 I have driven had the very same feature, that the boot would unlock automatically once key was within range, whilst the rest would require you to actually unlock by key or pressing the door handle.

I initially thought it was a pointless gimmick but I quite like it now.
No need to search in my pockets for keys when I get to the boot with a shopping trolley or when I have my two dogs on leads who travel in the boot.

Have checked mine and ok to be fair. Though could have been lucky. Locked it and placed the keys 3m away. Went to check boot and was locked. Hope you get it sorted
Same here, my wife placed her keys on our wall, approximately 10mtrs away, and returned to the car.
Boot was locked.

Hi Nico. And many thanks to all for your replies, It’s the “few” metres away, that’s the problem on mine, where it’s more like 25 meters.
This results in the tailgate being open when the keys are indoors, I’m shopping, or in the pub, or gym.
I’m trying to get my head round how this actually works. Let’s start with this scenario, car all locked, including the tailgate.
1. Does the car keep ‘pinging’ the key fob, and when it’s it in range, the key fob responds and the car unlocks the tailgate.
2. Does the key fob periodically send out ‘pings’ and when it’s in range, the car unlocks the tailgate. I doubt this is correct as the key fob battery would become exhausted very quickly.
In non tech, if we were to stand facing each other, one of us would have to keep saying Hi, and when the other hears it, they react.
As this isn’t included in the online manual, and I haven’t found anything relating to in the menus, I’ve had to resort to carrying the key fob around in a tin box.😏😏.
Cheers Noel.

You could try putting your keys in of those small faraday cage pouches you can buy to stop thieves cloning your car keys and stealing the car.
It's a faff though.

Hi Noel,
There is seemingly a fault with your car or keys.
I'm assuming your first scenario is probably correct.
The first time we struggled with the boot being unlocked wasn't helped by the wife having the spare key in her handbag in the car. 😁
I tried attaching a quick video that shows my boot locking once the keys are about 2m away but it won't upload to this forum.

I bought a two pack faraday pouch from Amazon to keep my keys in .it solves the problem

Hi Nico. I’ve been a bit busy, but today I tried using the spare key fob. Whilst not conclusive it appears to be better/different. Weather permitting, I’ll do some tests tomorrow.
It will involve moving the key fob progressively further away, and returning to the car after every move, to see if the tailgate has locked.
Off topic, we went on honeymoon, in my Mini Cooper, many years ago, through Devon, and the up through Wales to Aberystwyth, and Portmeirion. So we were only about 5 miles from Commins Coch. Mind you this was about 50 years ago🫢.

I stood at the boot today (without my keys) while my wife walked slowly towards me.
I heard the boot unlock when she was just past the rear door.
Only problem is the boot would never be locked while you are in the car because you would have your keys with you (unless it locks while the #engine# is running).

That’s an interesting observation. I suppose the test is to sit in the car with, or without the engine running, and get somebody to try and open it.
If it is open, it provides an opportunity for somebody to open it, whilst stopped.

Given the car locks above a certain speed by default (unless you disable that), I would assume it remains locked as long as the engine is on.
