Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

I.just picked up a new MG5 yesterday. It is brand new. But I did notice that the tyres were dated 40th week of 2022...so I wonder how long it's been sitting around?!

Question is, should it be already programmed to use the Tesla chargers? Do I need to subscribe to Tesla somehow?
Hi congrats on a fine vehicle. I think the answers you need are yes I believe the later face lift models are already set up for Tesla chargers and if you need the cheaper rate yes you need to join up to Tesla. It’s about £9 a month or £90 for the full year.

The tyres could have been sitting in a warehouse for months, before being fitted.

The Tesla update is done free at service time for FL models. I would have thought they'd have done all software updates as part of the PDI but probably best to check. You shouldn't need to sign up with Tesla as all recent chargers have to accept contactless payment, by law. However, if you are going to be using superchargers regularly it may be worth joining the Tesla "club" to get discounts.

I believe that there could still be a lot of version 3 superchargers (see through the middle). For those it will be necessary to download the Tesla app and set up a credit card for payment. The version 3s don't have a credit card reader.

In Australia, I believe that some version 4s have no credit card reader as yet, or it's not working yet. Things may be different in the UK, with different laws and expectations.

Same here UK, odd V2 about and V3s short cable no card reader. A few V4s knocking about but not many yet in comparison. These do have card readers but some have reported problems with them.
The Tesla app is needed in reality, no cost for that and no need for any subscription. Will only show you those chargers open to non-Tesla if you tell it you don't have a Tesla. If you are going to be using these lots then worth paying the subscription to get the slightly cheaper prices but for occasional use not.

I picked up a new one last week for a cracking price, and yes they have been sitting around for a bit....you can tell from a little bit of rust around the brakes, and also the dust under the bonnet. I asked them to make sure software including the Tesla updates was up to date. Initially they said the Tesla one was chargeable but I said if they were doing the other updates it should be no extra costs! They did it for nothing....although I haven't tried it out yet.

My 24 plate didn’t have the Tesla update - depends how long they’ve been sat waiting for an owner I guess?

Successful update on my 72 plate PFL Exclusive yesterday while in for 2 year service - no additional charge.

Tested this morning and all worked fine though speed seemed to peak at 37kW - maybe because I only left it 5 mins as a test charge but still OK given potential cost savings

Tesla Supercharger Issue (MG5 EV) I signed up to the £10.99 subscription yesterday, I had used a supercharger successfully in Banbury (June 22) while the Osprey ones were faulty. It seems Tesla one of the cheapest chargers at the moment, so went for the subscription as I have a regular commute. Tried 4 different points in Banbury today without success, trying multiple times on each station. Ended up using some Bonnet credit in the end to get me home. I was passing Flint mountain Tesla superchargers so tried multiple times in 2 stations. The error I always received was "no car detected plug in to charge" a few times I had to wait a while for the connection to be released. I tried everything I know how to do, it should have just worked. I couldn't find a number to call but I would imagine it would have been of little help. is there anybody who uses these regularly that could offer any guidance?
And yet I’m a new user of the Tesla chargers and I used them in Fort William on the first and third of October on my way to and from Skye. Both times the connection and delivery were faultless with my MG 5 pfl.

Mines due a service soon, wonder if I'm better off asking for the Tesla charging update (they didn't have a clue last year) or stating that public charging is rather hit-and-miss and seeing if they then do an update.

I've had issues handshaking with a few CCS chargers and also issues with A/C posts where if they fail to dispense power the car goes into a fault mode.
Thought I'd share this experience... I've got the Tesla update and have successfully charged at various Tesla stations. On the way back from Cornwall my navigator used google maps to direct me to what I thought was Tesla Service Centre, Exeter but in reality I was taken to Tesla Moto Services, Exeter - which isn't open to non-Tesla drivers. Not realising this, I plugged in the CCS and of course the car wouldn't charge. BUT when I went to start up I got an 'HV Battery Fault' warning on the dash and the car refused to move. I tried to clear the alleged fault by turning off and locking the car several times without success and I concluded - rightly or wrongly - that Tesla had crashed my beloved car's computer(s). Luckily I remembered that elsewhere on this forum it was mentioned that the car could be forced to reboot by disconnecting the 12V battery. So I did just that and hey presto the car then came back to life and I was able to reverse out and drive to Tesla Darts Farm, Exeter to get charged.

To avoid such annoying events, use the Tesla app to select the station you want to go to on the Tesla app, and then click the directions icon next to the address. It will then give you a choice of your installed navigators to use for the route planning. :)

Hi
I have down loaded the app and after seeing some videos on YouTube when you open the app it should say charge your non Tesla but but my app say find charger and shows all Tesla sites. Once you down load the app what did you need to do?
I will be pick-up a a ZS next week.

Mine also says 'Find a charger'. It only shows open to all Chargers. I think it used to say 'Charge your non-Tesla' but has been updated. There are a surprisingly large number of open to all sites

Do you also own a Tesla? When I use the app it only shows open chargers when I click on "Find a charger". Have a look at Gonerby moor on the A1 that is definitely a closed Tesla and doesnt show on my app.

To save me reading the whole thread - does anyone know if a new facelift model need this update or is it already done? If not, what would I ask for? Just the Tesla update?

It should be done free with a service, on the FL, but best to state you want it done to be sure they don't forget.

Yes it needs the update. I haven't heard of any new FL that has had the update done without it being asked for. If you ask at the time you are buying the car you will almost certainly get it done for nothing (ask for the EVCC update). If you ask at the time of the first service you may get it for nothing depending on your dealer. If you ask to have it done as a one off job you will almost certainly have to pay.

The car is brand new from MG dealer, contract signed but delivery not imminent. I'll ask them, thanks

The update should be done as part of the PDI but a written request/reminder to the dealer wouldn't go amiss. It could save you a trip back later.

I haven't heard of anyone who has had it done with the PDI unless they have explicitly asked for it.
It should have been done as a recall for everyone and as standard on all new deliveries but that would need MG to admit that it was a bug in the software.

I asked for it to be done on my last dealer service, they said they didn't know anything about the update, when I picked the car up they said they still hadn't had an answer. A week later I rang back, they said they could do it but it would be £100+vat, needless to say I haven't had in done.
