The great big insurance rip off

Which reminds me. Has anyone fitted a GPS tracker, incase of theft?
Jesus, no. When I was caravanning, insurance companies always wanted you to fit wheel locks, hitch locks and trackers. I refused twin wheel locks (I had a twin axle Bailey) and the tracker. If someone nicked my caravan and/or my car, i dont want it back thanks, pay me out and I'll buy another.

I cant wait to hear how you substantiate such a claim, how on earth is an MG better made?

If youve ever tried to make repairs to other phones (broken screens / backs / cameras) etc, you would appreciate the far superior engineering in the iPhone. Its in a different league entirely.

Well thats good, it is by no means a comparison against Tesla though, I have a 6 month old MG5 and a BMWi3, 7 years old and 95,000 on the clock. I do think the BMW is a better designed and manufactured car than the MG (I've not any trouble with either of them) but I do think the MG5 is a bloody good car.
I don't have any panel gaps - do you?

I've just insured our MG5 Trophy (collecting on Friday) with Direct Line, £279. DL seem to be really good and haven't been beaten over the last few years except with a 4.4 TDV8 Range Rover which they wouldn't insure without a tracker.
Direct Line for me has always been way more expensive for me. To say that they are not on comparison websites is not strictly true either since Churchill and Privelige are all one and the same company.

I went with Direct Line a few years back . The first year's premium was very reasonable and then the renewal doubled ( with no claims ) . Left and ,most likely, will never go back
Experience with DL does seem variable, I have nothing but praise for them. Family that have had experience with claims via DL has also been favourable.

Others may have better experiences but mine wasn't good. I switched to Sainsbury’s Car Insurance and stayed with them for about 10 years . Their premiums stayed stable all that time until they stopped doing it and Churchill took over and it was back to square one.

The odd thing is I had a survey sent to me from Sainsbury's last week regarding their insurance which they no longer do. Bizarre, unless they're stating it up again

It seems they have:

I've just done a quote though ... almost twice the price of the quote I got with Privilege via Meerkat. ?‍♂️

Having just recovered my equilibrium from the hikes on my car's insurance, 2 months later I've received an email from LV, very similar to the 'whiney' one they sent for the car, for the house insurance.

'Times are hard, costs are rising' and on and on.... followed by the generous offer to renew with them at double last year's premium!

Whilst my heart obviously bleeds for them... I've not claimed on house insurance in 30 years... they can stick their offer where the sun doesn't shine...

Off to look for quotes elsewhere!

They’re generous to a fault.

Same here for house insurance , I've not made a claim in 50 years . Maybe insurances , home and motor , could offer a free year to customers that have never claimed ?
On coming back to planet profit , I realise that will never happen :)

Jeeps! That was a hard search... 2 minutes to find better cover at a similar cost to this year's LV quote... off for a lie down, before I compose a subtle reply to LV.com... :ROFLMAO:

Seems LV are really trying it on this year in particular. Mine was the same. Needless to say they where ditched, pronto! ?

I'm tempted at this point to draft an email to the insurance ombudsman pointing out my issues this year with LV... but will wait until tomorrow as I've had a couple of beers on this lovely Saturday afternoon...

They are definitely trying it on. Last year LV were one of the most competitive EV insurers and now this year when they've got a large customer base they have hiked the premiums.

This year it seems to be Aviva Zero who are after the EV market. I bet they do the same as LV next year and hike up their premiums.

I am afraid with LV its back to the old rip off for the unwary. I was not happy with the increase so just out of curiosity re applied online and price dropped to the same as last year. I accepted that quote and called them. The excuse was that they had installed a new system that calculated discounts (I have 2 cars and house insurance with them) and the renewal quote used the old system... whatever. If you want to lower the LV quote just re-apply online. Back to the old days.

They did with me ... £384 last year, they wanted £560 this year. ?

This year's renewal with LV was £805 up from £650 last year. Which was up from £450 the year before. Didn't reapply, I thought sod um! Did a quick search and got it for £529 with Admiral. Whatever Bullshit excuse LV are coming out with, it is just that Bollocks, they are purely trying it on. Because unfortunately a lot of people will just renew. ??
