That would be a miracle!at 50 mph I get around 4.5 kw/m

How are you getting out of the way of HGV's ?Ah yes. This seems about right. I tend to drive "very relaxed" on motorways at about 60. This seems to be a reasonable compromise on getting there in a reasonable time and getting good consumption. I never go anywhere in a hurry. I do though keep a lookout for lorries creeping up on me and then get out of their way!
? You made a lot of assumptions there based on one small statement! Perhaps he meant if a lorry catches him up he will slow down for them to overtake?How are you getting out of the way of HGV's ?
I might be misreading the situation, but it sounds like you are hogging the middle lane if you are able to move over to allow HGVs to pass ?
If there is room for you to move over for HGVs, then there is room for you to be in the inside lane and move back out as necessary. You do realise it is an offence to sit in the middle lane if you are able to move over, punishable by a £100 fine and 3 points.
Apologies if I'm misreading the situation and for derailing the topic, but if he had said he regularly ran red lights, I think someone would comment, which is awarded the same punishment.
Lots of foreign lorries and sometimes the Irish lorries overtake me when I'm doing 60, especially down some of the bigger hills. I tend to slow down so they can clear the middle lane as quickly as possible and then I increase (it only takes a few movements of the stalk to achieve this).If you're doing 60 then they shouldn't catch you up.
I did say "I might be misreading the situation", so I recognise the situation isn't clear, but he says "get out of their way", not "slow down".? You made a lot of assumptions there based on one small statement! Perhaps he meant if a lorry catches him up he will slow down for them to overtake?
Oh dear - what have I started????I did say "I might be misreading the situation", so I recognise the situation isn't clear, but he says "get out of their way", not "slow down".
Oops. I’m knew to kw’s and miles. Used to litres and kilometresThat would be a miracle!

Ok so I have been monitoring this thread from the start, and i decided I would do a little test with my MG5 SR.
For the past few months now, I have been doing the same journey every few weeks to take my wife, this is for medical treatment on a foot injury so she as been going to a Specialised podiatry clinic in Leyland, it’s around a 14 mile trip from home, with varying speed limits of between 20-50 MPH, and is mainly trough built up areas, and with varying traffic conditions.
So there as been many times on this forum and others, that questions and options on what is the best mode to use and the best regeneration setting, I normally drive in Eco1 and my left hand is used to change the Regen levels when I can see I am going to be slowing down or stopping, to get as much Regen as possible, I will switch from Regen 1 to 2/3 and back to 1 again as I move off.
So for this test I left the settings the same and never change anything for the whole of the journeys, no heating or Air-conditioning was ever used at first and this is what I found, I started the test using E3= economy mode with the highest regen setting.

Then same journey a few weeks later car in Eco 2

Again same journey this time car in Eco 1

As you can see not much difference in any of the settings, when in Eco mode, yes there is some small variations in temperature but nothing else, and trough out my testing I did my level best to drive in the same manor and keeping to the speed limits every time.
So next I decide to leave the car in its default mode of N 2= Normal with Regen set in level 2,

So this was better than Eco mode only a small amount but better, and to double check this was right I did the same again today and again better than the Eco mode, plus today the whole of the Journey was driven with the Air-conditioning on full for the whole of the journey.
So coming home today, I made a small detour to a garden centre for some large bags of compost which where quite a weight, and a short stop off for a pub lunch Air-conditioning still full on and got this result,

So I think I will from now on leave the car in the default mode, as there as to be a reason why, that’s how the car was set to operate when it came from the factory, and not to default into Eco mode, plus we know the car is far more responsive in the feeling of the steering and it’s acceleration response. Plus the fingers on my left hand will no long be heading for a repetitive strain injury perhaps.

Hiya Gomev, your right, I had seen this myself, but over a very short distance about 14 miles, the MPH I wouldn’t have thought would have much effect and as I said, I did try to drive the same way on each run depending on traffic, we all no if you drive more gentle or slower, you will get better range out of any vehicle but the difference over such a short trip is minimal a longer and faster journey it would be different this I know.Les, one thing I do notice from all those photos is that the lower the average speed, the higher the m/kWh.
16=4.9
19=4.7 (N2)
19=4.3 (E3)
20=4.4
23-4.2
Les, found this very informative.Hiya Gomev, your right, I had seen this myself, but over a very short distance about 14 miles, the MPH I wouldn’t have thought would have much effect and as I said, I did try to drive the same way on each run depending on traffic, we all no if you drive more gentle or slower, you will get better range out of any vehicle but the difference over such a short trip is minimal a longer and faster journey it would be different this I know.
Now Jomarkh, #76 has commented above about the temperature this is another valid point as well which does have an effect

Said, quote, So the best strategy is to use KERS1 and release the throttle well ahead on any obstruction rather than leave it until later and either invoke KERS3 or use the brake pedal which will apply full KERS and then brakes if needed.
Unquote,
This is the right way to drive any vehicle EV or not and something I have always done it’s called anticipating the road ahead, and it works that’s is for sure.
Anyhow I was trying to show that on short journeys I think the default mode as been set up quite well by MG in my opinion. But many thanks for the input by everyone.

AgreedAvoiding hard acceleration and high speeds, slowing early before a stop and doing as much lift and coast as possible will always give you the best mi/kWh whatever regen or throttle setting you choose.
