MG4 Trophy LR
I've just got my car adapted today and to just see how it felt I took it round the block. I've not been able to test drive before purchase.

I was wondering what everyones experience with the throttle is on the MG4 Trophy?

It felt like I had to put my foot 1/4 (possibly more) of travel down to get any acceleration at all the car was in "normal" pedal response mode and I was pootling around at between 20 and 40mph in my town.
A) is this normal?
B) Does changing to Sport or Comfort change this?
C) Does the car remember these settings for next time or is it something I'll need to remember?

Other than that, it was a very smooth, pleasant 10 minute drive and I cannot wait to drive it more.

A) Throttle response in my MG4 doesn't really feel different than any previous car I've had ... or maybe I've just easily adapted to it. I've never driven an adapted car so I can't comment re. your specific circumstances.

B) The different drive modes feel like they simply adjust the "throttle lag" so as to adjust how much power is delivered when you press the throttle. Sport mode gives near-instantaneous power delivery.

C) The car reverts to Normal drive mode and Regen level 3 - every time.

I appreciate that thank you.

I guess I'm trying to decide if its my left foot accelerator or whether its just how the car is. The installer advised me that as part of the process, the original accelerator is completely removed so it stands to reason that it could be the adaption and not the car. I think I'll try sport mode to see if thats more to my liking. My last car was a Fabia vRS MK2 so perhaps I'm just used to the response of that.

After a while and you have got used to it and adjusted, try to monitor the power settings and make sure that on a empty bit of road, it goes to 100% power delivery. Also make sure your new throttle disengages autohold when used. If not a quick dab of the brake will disengage it , better that than being at a green light scratching your head. Enjoy!

How will I know if goes up to 100%?

There is a constantly changing small power meter in white next to the regen information symbol , bottom right of the drivers screen. When it goes into minus figures and green its showing regen percentage. Because it need a bit of concentration to focus on you'll need to be familiarised with the car or use a safe bit of road to analyse it .

Great thanks! I'll keep an eye out for it

Mines the same too funnily enough it's very different to an ice car in my opinion, but I just presumed it was because the car is electric.

Yeah I was thinking that, it feels very different to me from my Fabia. I've read a lot about the "instantaneous" power of EVs and I was quite worried TBH but actually thats not experience at the moment. It definitely has a pickup after which the power is there. I'll drive some more over the weekend and test some other settings see if it changes anything. I appreciate the reply!

I would say for me the only thing to adapt to was when taking my foot off the accelerator to gauge how much regen was being applied.

Coming from a diesel Jaguar, one of the first things I noticed about my Trophy ER was the absence of pick-up delay - even on "normal" mode - when moving off. Very reassuring when, for example, you are entering a busy roundabout.

Agreed. My Fabia used to take what seemed like a long time time to actually start to accelerate at roundabouts. Glad I switched!

The pedal response on mine feels "normal" to me, maybe a bit quicker than I intended at times. If yours has a delay, that's possibly the adaption, or your last car was very sensitive.
As said, as long as you get the full power range from available accelerator movements, there;s nothing to worry about. Give it a while, your foot will probably get used to it. If it doesn't then it's time to investigate a permanent solution.

As our 51 is still very new to us, the "normal" throttle response was everything we'd hoped for .... and maybe a bit too much at times ..... not accelerating past 50km/h when we had pole position at the lights took some careful pedal applications.
South Australia is broke so they generate big income via speed cameras, it the city, every traffic light is a speed and red light camera, try to beat the red light just costs you for a speeding fine, trying to get ahead of the car beside you so you can change into their lane .... in an ICE, not really a problem, in an EV, it's referred to as "The EV Tax" because you exceed 50km/h before you cross the intersection without trying, so careful throttle operation is required to save a serious pain in the wallet.

we found ECO mode to be a tad more friendly, Sport is a lot of fun, but seriously hard on the limited battery capacity ..... the chances of ever using SNOW mode is next to zero .... unless we find a very muddy road ..... CUSTOM is world yet to explore ....

Alway thought I'd love an XPower, built in vibrator and all, but my licence and wallet would be non-existent within a few mths ..... had to give up big motorbikes for a similar reason ..... and rapidly approaching 70, the body repair system isn't near as good as it once was .......

Custom just lets you set a profile that mixes the different modes. So you can get the throttle response of eco, but the steering feel of sport for example. I never bother taking it off normal mode, and use the left star button for regen mode instead, as I prefer A mode when using cruise control on the highway, but 3 in the city.
