My Dec 22 (bought Feb 23) ZS LR hasn't anything - seems like another MG UK enquiry for me to pursue !

Jumping on this, 72 plate Trophy Long Range, also don't have radio station icons, not sure what version I'm running on the software though, only had the car a week. How can I check?

Check through the settings screen - it'll be on one of the panes and look a bit like this ... although mine was just updated to R19 and hasn't delivered the radio icons :-(

Mine is currently 1300R16 (I think!) but I’ve enquired with my local MG garage about software updates and need to call them Monday

Ok further to my earlier post I have a Jan 21 Trophy SR no logo. Also Dec 22 SE LR still no logo.

Maybe there's a chip missing due to the COVID shortages? The later car is up to date on everything apparently, hence me wondering if it's something else.

2023 SR Trophy no DAB pic, Mind you No panoramic sunroof & when I tried to order a V2L cable two places told me I don't have that function.

If you search "missing DAB icons", you get posts from Skoda, Ford, BMW, Cupra, VW, Renault and plenty of other forums so I wouldn't bet it's MG missing chips or MG missing software update. Icons are supposed to be transferred via DAB signal so I would start looking into that side first...

I have a Jan 24 ZS EV Trophy Connect.
No station icons.
I really am very disappointed with the tech generally in this car. I know it's not a Tesla or Polestar but honestly.
  1. No wireless Android auto? Crikey, didn't expect that in this day & age. Cheapo hire cars I've used almost all have it.
  2. 2 x USB-C ports have no power and no connection. 3xUSB appear to have power and one has actual car connection. I've got it booked in to have a look at this.
  3. Wireless charging plate just makes my phone overheat and shut off (Samsung S24). I use wireless charging fine all the time at home. When travelling in my mate's Tesla also charges normally when I put it down. It means I can't even use the little place to store my phone and more importantly means I can't put my phone there with a short USB cable to use Android Auto because of the overheating. Would be better if I could just disconnect the charging function altogether then I don't have to put my phone in the cup holder with a USB cable stretching over the gear selector.
  4. The whole UI is very slow to respond to touches and really clunky design. Like 1990's phone
  5. Radio channels - why isn't there a button to skip to the next favourite on the main screen or the steering wheel? I have to make about 5 touches to change the channel to one of the favourites.
  6. No icons on the radio stations.

Wireless charger is fast charge, that's why the phone heats up. My Sony also heats up but also gets charged 3 times faster than on my desk charger. I keep mine in a cup holder. Yes, having another little shelf above wireless charger would be nice.

Get wireless AA dongle for about £12 on AliExpress, works a treat. Can connect over Bluetooth or WiFi.

Radio favourites show on screen, when I listen to them I display all of them on screen and then just touch the one I want.
On icons, every car manufacturer suffers from this complaint, more likely to be down to DAB stations failing to transmit info than the car.

Thanks. Firstly, I have a fast Samsung wireless charger at home and the phone doesn't overheat, it can get slightly warmer than ambient. The one in the MG causes it to overheat and barely charges at all, let alone 'fast'. After a 30 minute journey in the MG it gained about 2% and had a message saying I should turn the phone off to avoid damage.
I did buy a wireless (WiFi/BT) AA dongle from Ali Express. It paired easily and initially appeared to work quite well, but I found that when playing music it regularly stutters for about 2-3 minutes, so ended up binning it.
Icons - my 2015 Mercedes diesel showed DAB station icons.
Maybe if I put something on top of the panel to block the charging (wood/metal?) it would become a useful resting place at least.

This happened to me too and what it was is that the car see Bluetooth phone and wants to connect to it interrupting AA dongle connection - they basically fight to connect to the phone... When I figured out what it was, I clicked "disconnect" car from the phone and since then if I use dongle, it connects to it and no interruptions, when dongle is not plugged in, the phone connects to the car as usual.

Wireless Android Auto is still a relatively recent thing. I'm guessing the hire cars you had were designs from the last couple of years. The head unit is around 3+ years old now and 3 years ago it was not widespread.

Wireless charging on my Pixel 6 does induce some heat with the caseology case I have, but this is par for the course. It never shuts down for me.

Agree about the UX. It's a mess. And the English localisation is iffy as well, which just adds to the whiff of poor quality. Lots of other Chinese brands are like this. Their engineering expertise is way ahead of their software expertise, which sort of matches up with what's happened over the last few decades where western companies have done the design and software, and thrown things over to China for manufacturing, so that's where they have strength and depth.
