Tomato Energy

...

I doubt it but I'm sure they're noticing an impact, I would say the majority of Tomato customers have come from Octopus.
...
I'm sure you have some factual basis for that statement other than everybody that you have converted.

I'll agree to disagree on the resat and leave the inevitable last word to you.

What I'm liking about Tomato Energy is that, so far, it's been free!

I switched from Octopus Go at the end of September and have yet to receive a bill, so at this point I've had 70 days electricity from them without payment.

MyWatts shows estimated data (which is utterly wrong) for the first 16 days of October, and "fetching data" from then on.

As its a time of use tariff, I assume they are still working through the issue with meter readings being half an hour out from what they expected and my bills are in the work in progress pile.

Finally received my first bill from Tomato this morning, for October - the switch was on 30th September.

I've been monitoring my usage figures from my SMETS2 meter with the Loop app; that records usage but can't calculate cost for time of use tariffs, so I'm pleased to find that the bill is very close to my estimate. Compared to Octopus GO its saving me over 40% on charging at home, also saving on running costs of washing machine and dishwasher, and the rates are fixed until Spring.

My guess is the delay in Tomato preparing the bill was caused by the issue they encountered with the consumption records being 1/2 hour in arrears, probably complicated by the switch from BST to GMT in October. I expect future bills to arrive more promptly!

I joined on 23rd September, and still haven’t received a bill. I could see nothing at all in MyWatts, but last time I spoke to customer support, I was recommended to use the Hugo app, which works well with TE, but only has the ability to calculate 2 different times of use.

No it was an impression talking amongst others and of course the people I have helped move across :)

However, to check further I asked in the group just to see if my gut feeling was correct .........

Its not my favourite place either but useful as in this case with Tomato to have a direct line of communication to the boss.
Hardly surprising that a large amount of EV users would have been on an Octopus tariff.

It is significant though that a lot of EV and Battery users are leaving Octopus.

Cross wires. Of course you would leave Octopus for a much better deal.
I meant it wasn't a suprise that 77% of the leavers are from Octopus. As they where the go to/best deal suppliers. That is until the new kid on the block arrived. Which is obviously good for us lot. 🙂👍

Hopefully Octopus will pull their head from where the sun doesnt shine and do something about it, competition will work in our favour, they also need to work on their ethics before I would consider returning to them.

Re: billing by Tomato Energy.

In earlier posts to this thread I commented on the fact that I joined Tomato on September 7th this year but am yet to receive a bill. myWatts doesn't work properly for my meter (many days are shown as Your data will be available soon).

As a result of no bills and very little data I raised a formal complaint. Then @johnb80 posted the item from Facebook (earlier in this thread) and it confirmed that, as I suspected, my SMETS1 meter was the problem!

This morning I received a phone call from Tomato Customer Service confirming that they could not get the correct data from my meter and offering me two options: 1, to transfer to their standard tariff (no cheaper than my previous supplier and no cheap rate period); or 2, stay as I am and accept that bills will arrive "eventually" and to ensure I have saved enough money to pay them. The latter I had already accounted for but, in addition, I was told that if no bill was produced within three months of my joining date (that anniversary has already passed!) I would receive a 15% discount; if the wait was 6 months the discount would be 50% and if 12 months or more it would be 100%!

Needless to say I chose option 2!

The Customer Service agent confirmed that, eventually, my meter would have to be upgraded to SMETS2 but, at the moment, Tomato cannot offer to carry out this but are actively seeking to be able to do so at some point in the future.

Overall, I think this shows quite exceptional customer service!
My son today received an email stating the exact terms of bill payment and discount if it is not resolved in the time scales.

Looks like Tomato Energy are clearing the backlog of bills on Lifestyle EV.

I switched at the end of September, but my first monthly bill, for October, didn't arrive until last Friday, 13th December. Today, 6 days later, I received the bill for November. I expect December's will turn up even more promptly, in early January.

Very pleased with their rates, and glad I switched from Octopus GO. Also MyWatts is working fine, now that it's getting readings from my smartmeter 🙂

Hopefully Tomato will be successful with their tariffs, shake up the market, and force other suppliers to be more competitive.

I have just had my December bill from Tomato, £152.03.

For comparison, last year with Eon, where I had gas heating and cooking, the bill for December came to £271.60.

So, with no gas standing charge, having an induction cooker, and a Tepeo Zero Emmission Boiler, I have saved £119.57 in one month!

Kerching, result. Thank you Tomato, that's a very nice Christmas present.:)

Oh and a big thank you to johnb80 for bringing Tomato Energy to my attention.
