This is for the entertainment display in the middle of the dash (radio)

Easiest way to see if this is relevant to you is by going to settings, system, entertainment system version and looking at the SWI number
This Guide is for SWI68
The SE/Excite is a different process, as is any 2024 variant
The Essence model is the same process but the files aren't currently available

Files can be obtained from here

Go to settings, system the current version will be displayed
Eg. SWI68-29958-1300R63
PXL_20250106_185849427.jpg

Tap entertainment system version 5 times and a login box will appear
PXL_20250106_213628620.MP.jpg

Enter 200519 to give access to engineer mode
PXL_20250106_185831950.jpg

Product info. will show all versions
The only one you'll be interested in is the FICM MCU version eg 68.4.7.0
If it's lower than 68.4.3.0 then you'll need to update it, if it's higher then leave it as it is as 68.4.3.0 is the newest available for USB update
PXL_20250106_185840514.jpg

Extract the zip on to a USB drive, FAT32 is recommended by MG but NTFS & exFAT have been used successfully, only have MG files on the drive (tested with other updates ok like TBOX)

The USB drive should have a folder called AVN_MPU with 1 file inside usb_OTA_update.zip, for the MCU you'll also have VIPimage.bin & MD5_check.txt not in a folder on the drive
IMG-20250106-WA0005.jpg

Plug USB drive in to either USB A (port 2) or USB C (port 1) at the front

In the engineer mode select USB upgrade then AVN MPU, the car needs to be woken up (sit on drivers seat with the key), but not in ready (don't press brake pedal), if it's already in ready then open & close driver's door
Update takes 10 mins

If MCU update is required then USB update then select infotainment system MCU
Looks like this whilst updating

R40 new HVAC design

R46 adds the top bar in AA & CP

R59 stops top bar from being able to pull down in AA & CP, also breaks hotspot but adds route planner and ELK (LKA) shortcut

R63 fixes hotspot but DIY update stops programmable charge limit via the car, have to use app or charger to set limits (requires SIPS update to fix it)

Is there anything I can help clarify?
If there's bits you don't understand then others are likely to have the same issue, I'd like it to be as easy to understand for people as possible
Hopefully finish the rest of the images & description later today

I don't know if I can help @MG Clive but basically:

There are two types of software updates, ones done with a laptop and ones done via a USB stick.

The USB stick updates are only for the Infotainment screen/system. Laptop ones can update all car systems, such as is done by a dealer.

Now the files have become available, guides like these are for people to update their Infotainment system at home, without going to a dealer. These guides are unofficial, not the same as over-the-air updates and are done at your own risk.

The guides are different depending on whether you have an SE or Trophy (UK nomenclature).

Those tech-savvy enough to attempt them do so because they want bug fixes and new features without paying for them or having to go to the dealer to get them.

All of this is provided by volunteers, free, who deserve great credit.

So my hotspot won't work? just did R59
And related question: are the data for the hotspot complimentary, same as car data, or will I be charged/ need to buy data?

A difference also with the floating ACC menu that initiated with the left star (as I had set it even before the update). This menu would hover for a few seconds and disappear, now it stays on until I press the middle button again.

Do we know if cars updated with r63 updates by the dealer have this charge limit fix?

Hi, I want to thank haloweenhamster for posting the update instructions and source data. I would like to ask the author some questions.

1. Is it known if the service centers check if there is a different version of the infotainment than the one they record in the system (electronic service book)?

2. Is it possible to upgrade immediately from version R46 to version R63 and skip version R59?

3. In the instructions there is only an update via the AVN_MPU button. But in the MG manual, the first step is to update via the Infotainment system ECU button. So should we not do the update as per MG instructions and only do the AVN MPU update and not do the Infotainment system ECU update?

4. Finally, MG's instructions state that after the USB update of the R63 is complete and the factory settings are restored, another update via SIPS is required due to the sensors. However, only service can do this anymore. What if I don't do the calibration via SIPS after updating to R63 because I don't have access?

5. I have FICM MCU version 68.3.3.6 see photo. So do I need to update the FICM MCU version before the R63 update itself or do I run the R63 update as instructed and the update itself will notify me that I need to update the MCU first? I am a bit unsure of the procedure here and would like if the author could detail the update procedure if the FICM MCU version is lower than 68.4.3.0.

6. If I prefer to roll back from the R63 version to the R46 version that the service station has officially uploaded before visiting the MG workshop, is the procedure exactly the same or does it have differences?

Thank you very much for the answers.

5. As far as I recall reading, the USB update package for the R63 MPU does not have the MCU update files ... it can only be updated via SIPS. The R59 update package has the 68.4.3.0 MCU update files, although 68.4.7.0 is supposed to be the one that is aligned with R63. 🤷‍♂️

They only normally have the latest & update their sticks when a new version is released
2. Is it possible to upgrade immediately from version R46 to version R63 and skip version R59?
Yes it's a complete package not a patch

The MCU is in the original post, it's literally just selecting a different option under the USB updates page

The SIPS part is for the charger limit adjustment

The star buttons won't work correctly with that old version, can do it before or after the MPU
6. If I prefer to roll back from the R63 version to the R46 version that the service station has officially uploaded before visiting the MG workshop, is the procedure exactly the same or does it have differences?
Exactly the same for all 3 versions R46, R59, R63 up or down grading
Thank you very much for the answers.

Oddly, mine came with R40 …and 68.4.7.0. Dealer basically must’ve done a full SIPS update at PDI (Sept ‘24) but left AVN_MPU on an older version that was known to be more reliable. Have R63 now and all seems ok.

Cordialement.

Hello, thank you for the very detailed tutorial and for putting the updates online. I wanted to know if the updates put online for the R63 can be put well for the French MG4 luxury V1 2023? If so, will the interface be in French after the update in R63 as I had with the R46?
Thank you for your help and your answers.
Kind regards
