Unable to move?

Hi,
In panic mode a bit thinking something might be wrong.

My wife and I tried a few minutes ago to her Yoga class, we unlocked the MG, got in and pressed the brake for ready mode.

When ready, I pressed the brake and selected Reverse and then press the accelerator and the car started to move backwards about 6 inches and then came to a sudden stop with a bit of a jolt, so I looked think the hand brake was still on and then realised there is no handbrake So I put my foot on brake and selected Drive and the car again moved forward approx 6 inches and cam to a sudden stop, I tried going between R and D a few more times with any success. It was as it you start to move and you would pull the handbrake on or stamp on the brakes.
There were no alerts audible or on the screens, so I put it into Park and we got out locked the doors and it powered down, then got back in and started up again and selected Reverse and this time all was fine?

Could this be one of the systems kicking in? If so why did it clear and we got out and got back in again unless it's the MG way of doing IT of turning it off and on again

I was on my driveway, the garage door was in front of the car approx 2m away and there was nothing behind me (apart from the road) and there was no pedestrians or cars coming past.

I had that problem. It was an ultra responsive emergency brake system kicking in. It would detect minor movement 50 feet away and come to a sudden stop making it almost impossible to reverse. Dealer turned the sensitivity down and has worked fine since. However, as you say there was no movement behind you so might not be that but I would start with having dealer alter sensitivity in case car is detecting something small like a bird.

Like @Surfdog , I've found the reversing sensor system very sensitive. I've been revering out of our garage onto the drive when the car has suddenly stopped due to a car passing on the road some distance away.
You can change the settings through Vehicle settings>MG Pilot screen.

I actually had something very similar to this this evening, and it was because my husband had got a bit previous and connected his iPhone to Sleipnir before the car had gone through his wake up routine. He wouldn’t move anywhere, either in R or D, after an initial jolt, so we had to power him down completely and restart before we could get going.

hopefully a little bit of a reboot of the car will resolve - otherwise AA/RAC should be able to help?

It has happened again and this time I know the reason why!! I am being dumb!

I had my left foot on the brake thinking it was the clutch, so every time I tried to move I was using both pedals.
Got to keep remembering the left leg does nothing now.

Until you get used to driving an automatic tuck your left leg under your right up against the seat if that makes sense.
There have been cases when drivers who aren't used to automatics pushing both pedals thinking the accelerator is the brake and the brake the clutch pedal and having the car run away from them.
