MG4 Trophy LR
I recently purchased a a 1 year old MG4 Trophy with 250 miles on the clock and one year service completed.
Software SNAKP168-29958-1300R30.
I contacted my local MG agent and booked in for a software update. I requested only Free updates to be carried without my approval.
4.25 hours later the car was returned. They said the software listed on Recall had been carried out and gave me a list of updates not undertake.
Additional updates not covered by recall would be chargeable - £432 The list of updates not carried out might as well be in another language and the service desk could not elaborate.
The software after the update is the same reference as before.
When I asked what updates they had carried out they replied "as per the recall"
When asked what the updates were they didn't know.
When asked what was different they didn't know.
When asked if I had now gained 1 pedal driving, I was told that feature was not available on the MG4.
When asked what I would gain if I paid for the additional updates (£432)- they didn't know.
Is this the level of service I can expect?
Is the software too complicated even the MG service agent didn't know? what is going on ?
I really like the MG4 but the software and service are lacking.
Am I asking too much?

There are some better ones. Or so I'm told. Might be worth shopping around. Oh, and leave a review of this outfit in the appropriate subforum.

The software number you have is for only one of the modules in the car. There are quite a few and most you can't see the version numbers.
What issues are you having that a software update will sort?

If you don't have a rear wiper you won't have OPD

The version you referenced is for the entertainment system

The updates they carried out would have been
BCM
or
GW/BMS/CCU/SCU/IMCU/EPMCU/EVCC

Updates won't really give any new features but they will make it a nicer driving experience

I personally wouldn't pay that but I do my own, I'll be updating again this week (generally have a new update every couple of weeks)

From the YouTube videos I have watched I was hoping to get quick access to turning off the lane keeping assist and the option for one pedal driving. I am new to all this and don't know what to expect .

So, how are we expected to know what software we are on what we have can expect?

Too much hassle 😂
If you're ever near Coventry/Milton Keynes & I'm not at work I can show you what your module versions are & what's available, possibly do some small updates (at your own risk) but the larger ones can take hours

That's a very kind gesture gesture and much appreciated. Unfortunately you are 80 plus miles away and I have no plans to be heading your way any time soon. I am interested in how you interrogate your car and how you make updates. Is this over the air?

A link to that thread

I've just come off the phone from booking my MG4 in for its first service at Paul Rigby MG Redditch.

I requested the latest software updates and I was told that all updates are now chargeable, as from December 2024, EXCEPT LKA (SC0077?).
Can you tell me if this is true, and what I can do to get my car's software updated to a good(?) / better level.

Any help much appreciated.

This in a nutshell is the reason MG will lose repeat custom
