USB Music

I think that's common. My Golf did the same. The difference was that it would recognise iPod playlists if you talked to it nicely for long enough. But I got a bit tired of listening to some random track from the middle of some random German opera that began with the word "aber" before it would deign to co-operate.

Hi all just thoch on the screen were says play all or at the top of music tracks keep doing that until you find all your albums there you can select any one you like.

OK, I have folders but my main gripe is the limit on the number of files per USB. My old ICE (Seat Leon) happily took all my tracks on a 128Gb USB. I now need four of them to accommodate my MP3 music. If, on a journey, I have had enough Springsteen and fancy some Elgar, I have to stop and swap - which, inevitably means, I stay with Bruce.

Hmm

Bruce Springsteen or silence. Difficult choice I know but after giving it considerable thought of 0.2 seconds silence wins ?

The way the software on the SE was (still is on mine, damn my dealer's eyes), I was seriously considering using a bunch of mini USB sticks for different classes of music, because it's impossible to find what you want when every track is listed separately on the top screen.

I have a bodge for those you have too much songs on their USB.
As I noted in the github of the script I made to copy my playlist verbatim for the car.
You can also put a dot in front of the folder name you don't want to listen. So if you have either a USB A+C stick or a adapter, you can use your phone to select what you want to listen. Since it is just changing the folders name no long transfer needed.

I haven't checked but any filename starting with a dot should also be ignored.

That means that you might need to tell your file browser to display hidden files as the leading dot is how Unix-like system distinguish between hidden files and that is what we are exploiting here for the infotainment.

Again a lot of faff for something that should just work?

Hi All (@Purclewan in particular) - I did some testing today in my Trophy as I have a USB stick with music organised into folders either for Albums or Artists (I have some sub folders too with different albums by the same artist as well). When I first opened the USB Music player the infotainment showed me a list of all the songs it had found on the stick and started playing. On closer inspection I noticed that the list on the left where the songs were listed was titled "Play All" so I tried touching the screen where it said that - to my delight I found that it is then possible to get a folder view of the USB stick and you can select the folder you want to play from (even the sub-folders) and that you can then choose from just the music in that folder.

Hope this is helpful!

The Trophy allows access to music by folder, ie by album.

The SE does not allow this, the fact that by fiddling around it can work on the Trophy isn't a solution for the SE drivers.

Those SE drivers who have had the R33 update say it does work with that update. If I ever get it installed, I'll tell you if they're right.

I was replying to @MartinSEsr.

I didn't know that R21 had the folders. I never found out what R21 was good for, and wasn't that interested as it didn't have the external temperature sensor, but maybe that's when they fixed it.

Anyone know how to set the usb to play an album at a time?
I raised this issue a couple of months ago on one of the forums and the answer was no. This is extremely annoying as I don't want 15 albums stripped of all tracks and listed in alphabetical order. Oddly enough, before the MG4 Trophy I had a 70 plate ZS Trophy and that worked fine, so what happened?
