V2L cable not working on MG ZS EV (merged)

That's cool, battery charger better than toaster ! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: if you try hard, maybe a shaver or cup warmer? We should have a photo competition to show what you can do with V2L!:LOL:

But I still think my car needs to get the 11473414 swapped out to the 11505199 in order for it to work. What module version have you got in your car?

I don't know, I can have a look now if you know where to look for it?

EDIT: Looking at the labels others posted, I think I found it - mine is 11254241

Huh. Does that mean that some people have had their on-board charger updated the expensive way (by replacing the entire EVCC / on-board charger)?

Or am I misunderstanding the numbers? [ Edit: I was! Sigh.]

Or maybe only certain third party V2L adapters, and not the official MG ones, work with the 11473414 on-board charger?

I'm new to all this and looking at the different labels posted here, they all say Charge: blah, blah and Discharge: blah, blah - meaning that whatever version number we have, it's meant to Discharge too ... from what I gather so far, each model ZS likes specific adaptor - don't know the insides of it but the module is supposed to discharge as it says on the tin (!). If it doesn't work with few different (simple) adaptors, I would claim under warranty as the module (or whatever else) is likely defective and needs fixing.

I would first blame it on the garages/dealers not being up to scratch with their knowledge yet ...

I just paid the £20 adaptor to try on my car, but I think my 11473414 does not work with any V2L cables or any adaptors, but worth trying 1 more instead of waiting 6 months for a no answer from dealer to swap out. I think somewhere mentioned chip shortage as some version of the module does not have the control chip for discharging?

@fred12345 You've got a different version number for the EVCC module to mine so I guess your car depends on the software update + resistor ohm value rather than the hardware like mine had.

You'd think that, certainly. But it seems that there is more to it, perhaps there is some sort of firmware incompatibility, who knows.

It may just be that the label on the 11473414 EVCCs is misleading (hopefully unintentionally) when it gives an AC discharge rating. The DC rating for the charger input, being the same as the AC voltage rating, also makes little sense. It may be a translation problem, though that seems unlikely.

My 2023 MGZSEV has the same issue. MG have confirmed that the issue is with the module. The reason being a chip shortage which did not enable this V2L function. SAIC are sending a replacement the module. They have not issued a recall or even told their dealers

Hi. Did you get written confirmation from MG about the component problem that you can share? I have the 11473414, which seems to be the problem unit from reading some of the comments further up the thread. Does anyone know what unit number it needs to be switched out to? Or will all others work? Is an update also required at the same time so that it works with doors locked?
I'm keen to get mine sorted ASAP. I'm already on my first camping trip and missing having the V2L.

All I can tell you is that when I contacted an ebay seller about purchasing a V2L adaptor he told not to purchase one as my vehicle (2023 model) was faulty. I then asked my local MG Dealer to check this and they then ordered a replacement module from SAIC and told me that due to a chip shortage this model year was shipped with this function not enabled and SAIC agreed to send a replacement unit of which I am still waiting for.

EVCC 11349836 ordered under warranty for my 2023 model. Installation tomorrow 9th May 2024. Hope that helps. Dave

Gday, the correct resistor for V2L on the MG ZS EV is 470ohm - this enable 7kW discharge power.

The correct resistor is 2000 ohm - giving about 2.2 kW.

Like you, I fitted the 470 ohm resistor, before we knew the MG recommended value, and I've left it, as the extra "Oomph" has been useful on occasion, although I don't push anywhere near 7kW !

HI Dave
I'm in a battle with MG who are saying that my vehicle (ZSEV TLR 2023/24 build) doesn't have V2L capability. Can you please confirm if your V2L now functions following the EVCC switch, and when you received your car initially (could it be a 2022 model that you received in early 2023?)? Do you have any documentation that you could share?
TIA
Anthony

Hi Anthony

I didn't purchase my ZSEV new. It was registered in September 2023. Module installed and the V2L function now works. I ordered my adapter from an eBay seller (pejos-98) who specified that I order a 2024 version or it wouldn't work. Unfortunately Eden MG of Swindon did not supply a printout confirming the installation of the module.

Someone posted somewhere earlier on that V2L was removed from recent ZS specifications on MG website. Who is telling you this, MG customer services or your local garage/dealer?

The problem is that all car manufacturers - all manufacturers, actually - state that specifications are subject to change without notice
Do you have "discharge" section on your screen? If so, I would just say "this is not working"; "why is it there then?". On the other hand, have you tried with different cables and adaptors by any chance? There is a guy on eBay selling them fairly cheaply, and there are different ones for 2022 and another for later models.

Maybe worth trying to find if there is anyone with 2023 model near you with working V2L that you could try using their cable/adaptor?

I wouldn't assume that because there is a screen with a function such as "discharge level" that it is available. My standard range has a screen that you can set the charging level but it doesn't work because that model does not need it because of a different battery chemistry, but its still there!

"are you saying I don't have the discharge function because of my battery chemistry?" ?
you are absolutely right, but if there is no better argument to use, try with any and hope for the best, they might just give up ... I personally can't see a winning argument against MG if they simply say that ZS specifications changed as of 2023.. same as the missing panoramic roof on the later Trophy ...

EDIT: which actually happened - they simply removed it from specs sometime in April/May 2023

From MG website
2022 specifications until April/May 2023:
