Made my own vehicle to load cable by using the supplied granny chargers type 2 socket and lead and popping a 13a socket on the end.
Swapped the existing resistor for a 470 ohm and gave it a try.
Recognises it as a v2l cable but wont output anything, cycles the locking motor a few times, then gives up, the type 2 works fine as a granny charger so I don't see any reason for it not to lock.

Anyone else had success with V2l I wonder ?

When you say it recognises as a v2l do you get the display asking if you want to discharge?

I made my own from a broken cable and an outdoor socket that now look very similar the the OEM one. Tried it with a toaster and it worked fine.

I haven’t experimented with V2L, but I remember watching this video of a family enjoying a hot cuppa in the Forest of Dean thanks to their MG4.

I was running a 1400 W rotovator from it at the allotment today. Check you haven't set your battery discharge limiter at too high a value. It wasn't working for me last week until I realised I'd set the battery not to discharge if it was below 60%... changed that and it worked fine.

I take it you were sitting in the drivers seat, and selected start discharging?

Thanks for the replies, after I posted I had another look and I had indeed failed to move the slider for the discharge settings as YaR suggested, basic mistake :giggle:

Boiled a kettle and drew 2.3kW so that'll do for camping in comfort.
Nice to have done it for a couple of pounds for a strip of resistors but I'll likely order a dedicated v2l now that they've dropped below £100 for a good one.

I purchased a ready made cable and have used it a lot and have had no issues so long as you don't overload the cars max output, I did overload it once just to see what happens and obviously the car shut the output down and then after a few mins reset and turned it back on. This feature was one of the reasons I purchased the car a very underated feature but has massive benefits.

Out of interest what does it overload at? - I've seen 5kW+ on the screen (with aircon on) in winter, with no issues (albeit a few mins just to test the system)

My MG4 states 2.3 kW 230 volts and that seems pretty accurate as when I tested it, it shut down pretty quickly once that was exceeded.

I believe the onboard device is universally bi-directional, so in theory it can discharge at the same rate it can charge. But that's not what MG specify. :)

The maximum discharge rate is determined by the value of the resistor in the plug.

Where are you getting working adapters from as I ordered one from AliExpress for an MG and it didn't work on my extended range.

I've never tried mine yet. However I bought it from a former member here - he built it himself and had tested it. :)

Not sure about others, but I used Ali express & made my own, its labelled as feyree - very good quality - was around £40 including 3m of cable (HO7B25 EN50620) about 18 months ago

Hi
I bought one and had the same experience until I plugged in different vacuum cleaner and it worked so it might be the appliance you tested

I bought the made up cable for around £20 on ebay and it works fine on my car
