Very blue thing has arrived...

That’s why I went for the 22KW cable as I thought the 7KW wouldn’t be big enough for anything higher than 7kw.
Yeah that will do 7 and 11kw, DC rapid chargers are all tethered

My MG4 has arrived, picked up on Friday and driven a grand total of 67 miles so far, I bloody love it!
It really is a giant leap forward in driving, havn,t charged it yet, It came with a granny charger but I seem to need a lead of my own for un tethered chargers, are there any tips for which one? lots of ads for leads but dont know which to go for...
Will post pics of the car soon, very impressed with the whole ev lifestyle so far..
Happy Easter all.
Nick
Hi Nicholas- can i ask when you ordered yours and whether it was direct or through lease company? Ive been waiting for what feels like a lifetime for mine! Many thanks!

When did you order your MG4 and what delivery date were you given?
Order end Oct/beginning Nov 22' and was told delivery Feb....delays due to parts and theyve now said end of April...its currently "at sea" status but this is through a lease company. No indication of how long itll be "at sea" for....its just taking FOREVER!

Many thanks to all regarding lead advice, as to enquiries about delivery times, I ordered the car direct through a dealer in December last year, was told to expect delivery in around three months, it actually took four months, so not too far out...
On another note, first time today I experienced lane departure control, it literaly pulled the car back into the lane... felt quite unnerving, I realise you can turn it off, but I think it resets by default, something to do with safety rating...
And I only reached for the gearstick twice today so progress there...:)

Incidentally, the car advised it was charging at 1.6kW. The granny charger is supposed to be 3kW (as apparently confirmed by my smart meter)

The granny pulls pretty much bang on 2kW at the typical line voltage I see here but you're only going to get 1600 watts at the car I've found, fair amount lost as heat I'm afraid. Bit wasteful

We've been getting between around 1.8-1.9
KW at the car according to iSmart.

Was pleasantly surprised. Still slow compared to a dedicated charger, but will do for now.

I recall seeing 1.8kW at the car when I used my granny lead. But yes ... efficiency is not great using it, as the fixed losses are a higher percentage of the charge rate vs, say, a 7kW charge point. (There are fixed losses regardless of source, and variable losses proportional to the source ... the lower the source, the higher the ratio of the fixed losses to affect efficiency).

I'm getting my blue thing on Thursday all being well. The dealer managed to sell me a charging lead while he was selling me the car. I intend to start off just using the 13A wall sockets in my garage, but I'm not crazy enough to think that will be enough without having the capacity to use public chargers too. Fortunately there is a (single) public charger in the village here which is within easy walking distance of my house.

I suppose I'll get a charging point installed in the end, everybody else seems to do it. But they're quite pricey and I've pushed the boat out far enough at the moment buying the car! A friend with a Nissan Leaf said he went a year before installing a charging point in his house.

I'm moving from a Golf GTi Mk6 which I've had for nearly 14 years, from new. I love that car but it was beginning to get expensive to get it through its MOTs, and the bodywork was embarrassing (not all my fault, it was rusting), and then some idiot went into the side of me last December and totalled two panels. The insurance gave me a reasonable settlement to write it off (135,000 miles) and so here I am. The Golf goes to the great insurance write-off auction in the sky tomorrow and I start my new de-ICEed life on Thursday.

Oh, poor you!

I was told on 31st March that the insurance wanted to write off my GTi (which is running absolutely fine, just dented) and panicked. I knew my next car was going to be an EV but had done nothing about researching them. But it took less than half an hour's googling to figure out that the MG4 was the stand-out no-brainer replacement for the Golf, and I spent the rest of the evening binge-watching MG4 porn on YouTube.

A few days later I phoned my local dealer and arranged a test drive for Saturday. That's Saturday 8th April. The day before yesterday. I fell for the car like a ton of bricks. Turned out that the dealer had cars in stock because they were selling like hot cakes, so they just ordered them on spec. He had exactly what I wanted. We were originally talking collection on 17th or 18th, but when he heard that my insurance company wanted me to turn in the wreck on the 11th he emailed back to say they could get it out for me on the 13th.

How's that for service?

I walked into the dealer for a test drive and took a Trophy from their stock. Apparently they didn't even have time to take the protective film off the screens and steering wheel before they supplied it to me . I declined the obligatory Supaguard but they threw it in anyway as an end of month inducement for me to buy. The planks treated all the plastic trims (including rear tailgate) so they're now covered in swirls of micoscopic scratches.

Alot of dealers don't remove the protective films as customers complain about finger prints on a new car screens from the PDI process

The leather parts of our trophy appear to be covered in some form of white balm noticeable when kids getting in and out and brushing against the seats and it shows the balm up. Very unsightly.

Do you have a picture?
I can get one within the next hour or so.

Yes (as that's 13A at 230V), but 13A is not usually a charge setting for "granny" charge points - the next step up is 16A, which would be inadvisable from a domestic 3-pin socket. In fact, even a 3kW heater is inadvisable from a domestic 3-pin socket - at least for a sustained period. :)
You can buy a 16a granny and use it on a blue 16a “commando” socket if you can get one installed in your garage or on an external wall
