What does your dealership say?

My MG5 LR 2021 is going on for is 3rd service and when I booked it in I asked for the front tyres to be swapped with the back tyres and was told they can't do it. I know this involves the TPMS but I feel sure it can be done. Has anyone had theirs done by their dealership?

I had mine swapped no problems and swapped back when the tyres were replaced.

I asked the same to be done during the 1st service, they couldn’t do it unless I paid extra??

Just get a tyre place to do it.

Yes, sorry for not being clear, it is the wheels not just the tyres.

Although it's a reasonable expectation, wheels aren't usually removed during a routine service so the garage could certainly treat it as a chargeable extra in terms of the time involved. There's no physical reason why they can't do it however and reprogramming the TPMS is within their capabilities.
I think I'd just swap the wheels myself if I felt the need and I wouldn't be bothered about a TPMS location discrepancy.

Out of interest, how do you determine which wheel is the "correct" one for each corner?

Just remember where you put them.
There are only 4 after all!

It's not me I'm worried about, but how do you know if someone else has mixed them up?

You could lower the pressure one tyre at a time and see how it displayed on the dashboard if you wanted the information immediately, or you could just wait until you get an issue and check each tyre in sequence manually till you find the right one.

I don't think it's critical.

But it would make life a bit easier if they were on the correct corners.

I always check all the tyres anyway, to ensure they are all equal. Not much extra effort, if you've dug the tyre pump out anyway.

I don't find TPMS particularly useful because it leads owners to think they never need to look at their tyres whereas you should be physically inspecting your tyres for damage on a routine basis. The older Deflation Detection System I have on my other car is much better IMHO because it doesn't care where the wheels are but can still pinpoint the location of a pressure loss whilst having no components that wear out or break.

When I used to drive a lot of commercial miles, I was told the best TPMS was the driver.

I used to have a walk round every morning before setting off.

The tpms discrepancy doesn't bother me I can easily work that out. I was thinking whilst the car is up on the ramp it wouldn't be too much of a task for them to swap them. If they had said it will cost you extra I would have known where I stood but being told we can't do it I was surprised, is it them being awkward? hence the original post to see if other dealerships were the same.

My Grandson runs a garage, he swapped my wheels front to back for me no charge, then when I bought 4 new tyres for £180 off *&^Bay, he changed them and balanced them, again free of charge, but then I do walk his Bulldog for him..

Yes I agree, so I contacted Glynn Hopkins in Chelmsford and they said that it shouldn't be a problem to change over the wheels however when I asked about my AA breakdown cover and would they give me another year cover? And as I did not buy my car from them they said they would find out and email me with a definitive answer, that was a month ago and still no email.
