Has anyone experienced the clear top coat peeling away from the surface of the wheel trims on ZS ev. I'm very disappointed that MG has declined this as a warranty claim on a two year old car.

Only the one trim?

Not surprised it's been declined, a lot can happen in two years.

Same as a regular alloy, any damage including chips and scrapes will let in water which will eventually show up as peeling clear coat.

Yep, all four failing seems odd to me.

Piss poor coverage of lacquer in the factory?
How did you clean your wheels? Very powerful Jet wash? I would like to learn a lesson here.

I am really impressed with wheel cover (with lacquer and wax?) . I did not wash my ZS in past 16 months. I only wiped the car and wheel covers a few times. Unlike alloyed wheels on my old car that dirt was built up quickly. The covers for my mk2 ZS are alway shiny as "new".

After 45,000 miles, mine are still like new. I don't use pressure washer, sponge and garden hose. That sand residue on your wheels coupled with high pressure washer might have played a role over period of time

It's an odd one for sure. Having said that, I have always avoided jet washing alloys or trims as I learned that lesson many years ago. Not at all saying that's what caused your problem, just that pressure washing only briefly a d bit even too close or concentrated has always been able to ruin alloys and trims.

Thanks for your observations. Mg service have finally refused a warranty claim as cosmetic items are only covered for a year. Looks like I'll have to blast the rest of the coating off with the pressure washer. ??

Write a formal complaint to MG in that case. If the wheel trims are not fit for purpose then its possible you might get somewhere with this. Wheel trims are £45 each on ebay if you end up footing the bill, I'd probably go out and find a set of compatible alloy wheels?

I noticed that one of the wheel trims was peeling off when I picked up my car from its second servicing two months ago (see first photo). I argued that this damage wasn't present before I brought the car in. I told my dealership that the issue might have occurred when they refitted the wheel trim, causing a "blister." However, they denied responsibility, suggesting instead that I might have used certain chemicals or jet washing, which I did not. I then complained to MG customer service about other issues with the outcome of the service, aside from the wheel trim. The Service Manager responded via email, still denying fault but offering to replace the wheel trim as a courtesy and to fit it when the replacement headlamps arrive (in another thread). The condition of the wheel trim has worsened over the past two months, as shown in the second photo.

Hello,
I have the same problem car is about 2 1/2 years old all the coating finish on the black part of the trim's are peeling off.
Its effecting three of my trims with the remaining one just starting.
I did contact Diamondbrite has the car was treated by them when bought 12 months ago just in case it was a reaction to any coatings put on the trims but they assured me it was just the Bodywork and interior that was done!!!!

I have exactly the same (all 4) and started after only 12 months. Its a defect as I've never pressure washed or used chemical cleaner. Its going in for other warranty stuff soon so see how i go getting them to replace.
