A large number of VAG cars where subjected to a manufactures recall, to have their packs removed and inspected for water ingress.
We all know what happens when EV battery cells comes into contact with water !.
It's NEVER a good outcome.
Apparently there was a problem with gasket sealant used when installing the case on the HV batteries in the manufacturing process.
Some cars only required the case to be removed and resealed.
Others required new cases and a few cells to be replaced.
Cars that was badly affected by water ingress, received a complete new pack !.
My previous 2015 VW PHEV was recalled at around four years old and the car had covered around 25,000 miles.
The closest dealer that was authorised to carry out the work was about 60 miles away.
They had a team travelling around the UK carry out the work, the car was in for three days and it was the tenth car then had done to that point.
Normally they would inspect and rectify one car per day.
Only ONE car had received a complete new pack.
All work carried out under warranty of course !.
The dealer called me on the second day, to say that they had performed a routine health inspection on the car and it required some additional work, and did I want it doing while it was in the workshop.
They told me that the brake fluid had NEVER been replaced and it was a urgent matter.
Also, that the cam belt would need replacing in 18 months time, did I want it done !!!!!!.
And the estimate for this "Extra Work" would have been over £500 - Did I want to proceed.
I asked the service advisor if he had checked the hand book that I had left on the passengers seat.
To which he said "No I have not checked it."
Well - I told him that IF he had checked it first before calling, he would have seen that the car had been serviced and the brake fluid replaced only three weeks earlier at my local dealers.
Also - Why would I want to replace my cam belt ( £500 ) a full 18 months before the recommended time schedule by VW ?????.
Clearly, they where looking for money to pass through the till on the day, while waiting for VW to pay for the warranty work.
Nice try - But on your bike !.
