Will you cancel your ZS orders to get the MG4?

As title said, I've been waiting nearly 10 months for the ZS with practically zero updates from dealers nor MG. Can I trust MG and dealers to fulfill 1000+ cars in two months, or wait indefinitely for the ZS which may never come?

Switching your option IS an option of course, but really I don't see how these two cars are comparable really ??.
The MG4 is a five door hatchback ( as far as I can tell ) more your VW ID / new e.Golf type of thing, while the ZS EV is a higher ride height small SUV / Crossover type of thing ??.
How are these even close ?‍ ?????.

It depends on what your requirements are, if you don't need an SUV then you are probably open to most forms.

I don't know I see fair few on roads in Lincoln

As for switching I got MG ZS because it was cheapest EV with decent range and space for family car. Hatchback would work for me but most were more expansive than ZS

I must admit having seen the MG4 I’ve contemplated the possibility of changing my order of the facelift MG5 with estimated delivery mid to end of December, it certainly looks great and as I only need a small car this might suit me, of course, I won’t know until I actually see it.
Not sure of the technicalities of changing my mind though,

This very true, but if a low ride height 5 door hatch back with a smaller boot space was ruled out when choosing your ZS EV then nothing has changed really ?.
If you have mobility issues then this was a good enough reason to choose the higher ride of the ZS EV ?.
I have a dodgy replacement knee, the MG4 could be the best car in the world, but I could not consider IT or any 5 door hatchback because of the low ride height.
My wife suffers from lower back problems also, so getting into a low hatchback maybe okay, but getting out at the other end of a trip is another matter ?.
If you are still waiting for your ZS EV and you are 100% sure that a low hatchback will suit your needs, then I would just order one NOW and wait to see which arrives first !.
If you wait and the first wave arrives and they all sell out ( and they will ) then the wait for the second batch of cars will be a LONG wait.
It will be a carbon copy of where we are with the ZS EV.
Early adopters have the teething problems to sort out for the manufacture don’t forget !.
Look at the Gen 1 ZS EV.

That's the only thing that would stop me from transferring my allegiance from an MG5 facelift to an MG4. The experience of early adopters of the VW ID.3 was not encouraging either, they were seriously let down and VW have left the model in limbo having moved onto the ID.4 and ID.5. Would MG do the same - @Miles Roberts CG has stated that all the existing models are due for replacement by the new platform in the next 3 years.
I think that like the ID.3 made the e-Golf look very dated both the MG5 and the ZS will look very dated by the MG4.

But what if the ZS was picked because of other reasons and not any of those other factors ?
i.e
the low ride height 5 door hatch back with a smaller boot space was NOT ruled out.
If you DO NOT have mobility issues.

SUVs are a relatively new form to the mainstream compared to saloons, estates and hatchbacks which we were all fine with, and most still are, before the obsession of manufacturers to push SUVs on us all.

I had the ZS EV Gen 1 and bought it because it was an EV and the price was right, not because it was an SUV, I am sure I am not alone, in that. I am now extremely happy with my low ride height (in comparison) MG5.
There are only 2 of us and I would certainly contemplate the MG4 despite the smaller boot space, if the price is right.

I would certainly contemplate the MG4 despite the smaller boot space, if the price is right.

I'm with you. From the specs and price hints from @Miles Roberts CG the MG4 appears both better equipped and lower priced than a facelift MG5, and given the better packaging of a dedicated EV compared to a converted ICE I think that the interior space and seat height may be greater.

There is always some new technology coming out just behind the corner if you are worried about it you will be waiting for ever. Don't future proof buy a car that is avaliable today for the needs you have today and after few years when you are ready to change do the same.

Good car today doesn't become bad car just because fancier tech comes out. It is just as good as it was before it came out

When the quicker one appears, maybe. To be quite honest the only reason I ended up with the ZS LR was for the battery. I'm not a massive fan of SUVs.

Coming from a lowered 3-series BMW M-sport estate the rear wheel drive of the MG4, 50:50 weight ratio and updated tech, along with the expected uprated towing capacities for bikes etc. is a pull over the ZS. We could add a storage box on the tow bar/roof box for the longer journeys.

However the acceptable boot size, higher ride height, pano sunroof with softer suspension of the ZS suits our situation well - it’s floaty-comfort focused.

It will come down to a test drive and seeing how the MG4 feels in general - the modern platform is appealing.

I have an MG ZS EV on order. I don’t exactly have a need for an SUV sized vehicle so the MG 4 has my interest.

The new platform is very appealing and the MG 4 is said to be capable of charging at 130kw peak rate. That’s nuts for a car at the price point it will sit at and ironically makes it a bit better at road tripping compared to the ZS EV.

I will have to view the car in person to make my final verdict though. Although I might wait for the AWD version which is supposedly coming Q2 next year.
