Winter time battery and range loss

Useful information . But all cars lose range in the winter EV and ICE alike . My previous two hybrids would return high 70s mpg in Summer but low 60s or 50s in winter much the same way as heavy use of the load pedal affects all cars :)

Agree but the range loss in an EV can seem a lot more dramatic (not all EVs) if you don't have an awareness

The range loss is more obvious when your range is smaller to begin with particularly if you keep your battery in a restricted range. I saw a video recently that suggested range loss is something like 15% range loss for ICE and 20% for BEVs.

What will be, will be. It's plainly obvious, you will have less range in winter. As said you'll just have to plan any trips differently. Me personally I've Been granny charging, twice a week, so far. In winter it might be Three time's a week or even Four, I'll have to see, you just adjust. Simple's. 🙂👍

The time of year you buy your car also makes a difference. My car arrived on 5th December, so my ownership experience has been of range getting better and better as the ambient temperature got higher. When we start seeing temps below 10 deg C my cars range will be getting back to where it started.

I charged the car last January just before a run out and even at 100% charge it estimated a mere 185 miles range. As it happened, I wasn't going anything like that far so it wasn't a worry. This is in the far North of Scotland, and at one point on my journey that day the car recorded the outside temperature as -13°C, so it shows how sensitive EVs are to the cold. Worth the hassle for the scenery though...

Which car model? (Your forum profile doesn't say). Without knowing that then it's impossible to relate 185 miles to anything ... for an MG4 SE SR that would be amazing in winter.

MG5 LR, pre-FL. The best estimate it's ever given of mileage at 100% charge is 275 miles.
