Can you not purchase the cushion and fit it yourself £140. Not saying that it is right that you have to replace it after such a short time, but saves nearly £300 on it. Which is just labour.

You always have The Consumer Rights Act 2015 and The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (for purchases made before 1 October 2015) the law says that any goods you buy must be: Of satisfactory quality; Fit for any particular purpose made known to the seller; and. As described.

It matters not what warranty MG provides, UK legislation takes precedence, worth checking with your local Citizen Advice.

My MG ZS EV mk 1 2020 (70) plate has just achieved 7,985 miles this week and has been well looked after from day one.

The attached photo is how the drivers seat looks now, but I did report this fault over 18 months back to my service dealer Chorley Motors in Burnley, who said "it was just a crease in the leather", but when I didn't agree with that point, I was told it was not covered under warranty.

I am at a "decision time" now, as the car is coming to the end of the PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) contract and my options going forward are:

1. Keep the car by paying the £9,750 balloon payment
OR
2. Handing the car back to the finance company
OR
3. Trading it in for a newer model, using the equity left in the vehicle as part deposit.

I today valued my car on We buy any car, Motorway and CarWow and it is valued around £11,242.

T
he price has been dropping in value by around £250.00 per month over the past few months despite only having a very low mileage - 7,985 on the clock.

So come November when the PCP contract finishes, there will be no equity left to use in the car as a Trade In.

I have decided therefore to simply hand the car back to the finance company, even though I have loved this vehicle since day one and still do, but technology has moved on big time since the Mk 1 came out and a much better range on newer models is now available.

I am looking for a slightly larger SUV now and was hoping the new revamped MG HS was going to have an ALL ELECTRIC model in the range, but sadly that didn't happen.

So my next move I feel after looking at all the options and cars I like, I will hopefully be moving over to a new all electric Ford Explorer Premiere, but for me, buying another electric car and losing so much equity (which I didn't expect), means I will move to leasing my next vehicle instead, which makes it cheaper on the monthly payments and without the worry of a PCP balloon payment at at the end of the contract either.

We still have a second car which is an MG4 X Power that we also love, but for my car, come November, I will sadly be moving away from the MG brand.

Have you seen the KIA EV9? Someone by us has one. To me, it looks similar in size to a Range Rover.

Has anyone successfully claimed under warranty? I understand the interior is only covered for 12 months.

We have a 70 plate ZS EV which we bought with 1,000 miles on and no seat damage! The car's now done just under 17,000 miles and the driver's seat looks like this.

I think the options are:
  • Speak to the dealer but I'm not optimistic.
  • Get the seat repaired - my guy says he's not sure how long a repair will last though as the fake leather is very, very thin.
  • Try to find a second hand seat. I want electric and heated though to match the original.
What have other people done?

WOW! That's bad. Don't care what MG says about 12 months warranty on seats.
I'd take that further. That's not wear and tear, that's a fault. Starting by kicking up a holy stink at MG. ?

My passenger seat has been creaking whenever weight gets put on it, but it doesn't happen all the time it does it for a few days then stops.

The seats are clearly not fit for purchase , check your national legislation. In they UK it would be covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, irrespective of the MGs 12 month warranty !.

Have any MG5 owners had similar issues? I would imagine that the same quality of material is used throughout the range.

Any MG owners with cloth seats had any issues?

No wear on the seats (mine's a 72 plate, 18k miles) but there is wear on the steering wheel and a small tear already.

I got my steering wheel replaced under warranty (also 72 plate) but MG only agreed to it because the car was less than a year old at the time. I've covered the new one.

I use autoglym vinyl and rubber care, has kept the seats looking like new. Think it keeps them flexible and not 'dry' out.

Back when I had a ZS, we noticed the passenger seat bolsters were starting to show wear at under 10k miles, the passenger seat was occupied by my wife about 30% of the time so it was only really 3000 miles for that seat. She had a fat a**e at the time, so overrode onto the side bolsters due to the narrow centre seat design. Anyone with a bottom above about a size 12/14 (or male equivalent) is going to do that on the ZS and it seems to cause them to break down. The drivers seat was fine as my a**e isn't very wide! She's down to a 12 now so we often joke how the seat would be fine if we had a ZS again! :ROFLMAO:

Good plan, but the foam underneath will still breakdown and collapse anyway if used by wider bottoms as the bolsters aren't up to being sat on!

Absolutely agree. I'm very conscious of the seats after reading this post some time ago and not only that my a## also overspill, but every time I get in and out, I squash the support ridge (if I should call it that way) closest to the door which is the one people most complaining about...
Have to go on a diet if I want my seats to stay nice...

Guess when someone complains here about their seats, first question is what's your trousers size ....??

I got exactly the same cuts , i have done 65k as a taxi , and it wont get cover under garanty. Bit disapointed with the seats , I use to drive a honda for work did 180k and the seats never got damage like this ..
yours are fake leather, Trophy model? yes, not as durable as real leather ... best to get seat covers

Passed 50 000 miles and recently the drivers seat (right hand drive) has cracked by the outside of my right thigh. Kevin on KC Talks has also had the same, blaming heavy jeans. I do not wear heavy jeans. Not great but liveable.

Maybe no heavy jeans but what's the trouser size ? ? It was confirmed that anything above 32 waist contributes to seats damage ?

I have tears in a similar position. It seems to me due to how hot the seat gets when the sun is out making the leather Brittle. I would vote but cannot find the yes button. The lease company are trying to charge me £800 for the repair to the seats. Let's stick together and fight this!!

Wearing only up to 32 inch waist jeans was not mentioned in the terms and conditions... so that does not stand up.

We all seem to have the damage in the same area. The car leasing company are charging me £800 for this damage. I have never torn my seats before in the numerous cars I have had. Lets stick together ... I am trying to fight this using my consumer rights.
