MG3 Hybrid+ Trophy
Have been looking at getting a service plan for my MG3 Trophy on the MG website. Everything seems acceptable price wise until the year 4 service which is priced at £940 .
This obviously seems expensive but does anyone on here know why it’s so much , is it something to do with the battery ?

OMG!

Are they trying to recoup the warranty claims?

I asked the Dealer about service costs, and he said between £150 and £200 per service, depending on which service it would be. So £940 seems quite high considering it's usually cheaper to purchase the servicing on a plan. But then my Dealer only needs to be £50 per service out with his pricing, and £940 would be about right.

Clive the £940 is for the year four service on its own not the total , never seen one so high with any car l have owned .

How much are the other services then @MadBaz , I think my Dealer was probably a bit out with his 'estimate'.
Service 1 shown as £163.48
Service 2 shown as £429.42
Service 3 shown as £362.82
Service 4 shown as £940.79

As l said this is taken from a service plan quote off the official MG website .

I got the service plan for £28 a month but they don’t offer it for 4 years I was told

Yeah I agree with this I actually looked into this ready and servicing is actually astronomical sadly! Maybe because it’s a hybrid? I’m not sure why it’s a lot but the prices I was quoted were the same as mentioned in here.

My local dealer does offer a service plan for 3 years servicing which was £642 upfront so I’d probably take that out, I did ask about the remaining years and they said I can just retake out the plan which works out £200 odd per service which is a little easier to swallow I think!

I also noticed that the spark plugs get replaced in first service? I thought spark plugs lasted between 30-50k mileage not 12k do you think this is due to being hybrid again?

Also had a little shock with the insurance actually did you all too?

Really can’t see why it is so much. A Lexus hybrid Major service at Lexus is around £500. I think that is the 60.000 mile service.

I've been checking insurance prices prior to taking delivery of mine, and the cheapest so far is £264.98, but this is down from over £350 when I first checked 3 weeks ago, by the time I get mine I'm hoping it's down to around £200 as more companies release prices.

I reckon this £940 4th service is MG's cunning plan to avoid the 7 year warranty, MG probably think that at £940, owners will stop servicing their cars after the 3rd service, and so voiding the remainder of the 7 year warranty. ?

Best to ask them what is done in the 4th service. I looked at the schedule for the standard MG3 and there was nothing extraordinary such as a cambelt change.

The Hybrid has a cam chain not a belt so that does not need changing and can not account for the silly price. Surely an MG independent could service the car. The warranty would be maintained and the engine is just like any car engine. I am not sure if the hybrid battery needs any special service.

I took out a service plan for my VW when i bought the car. It was £300 for two services. However for the next two after that they wanted closer to £500. I declined thank you as with the low mileage i drive a basic oil change service is all i need.

NOTE. I added the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years services together and this came to the £950ish, I reckon, MG Clive that's what that was, not what the 4th service price is.

Morning MG Clive. Your insurance quotes are very low, could I ask who you are insured with? My renewal on my Hyndai Bayon was £ 831, up from last year's £ 415, and on enquiring about the MG3 Hybrid they quoted £ 1056! 13+ years no claims and driving for 55 years.

This is from the quote received from the MG site , as you can see the services are priced separately
