Year 4 Service Price

Thanks @MadBaz, the perils of owning an auto I guess, although the gearbox service will probably be no more than a change transmission fluid.
Hi Clive. Re the servicing costs and the mention of automatics.. my Hyundai Bayon has a DCT gearbox and the total second year service was £249. These prices for MG seem to be a rip off. Could it be that the reason for the initial low purchase price is that they get it back on the servicing?

To settle a lot of the above queries I recently obtained the Maintenance Check Sheets for our MG3 HEVs which should be attached here. It looks like an lot of the high service costs is due to these main dealers' seemingly humungous labour rates. Happy reading!

per the second page, at year 4 the EDU - aka electric drive unit - requires oil change and filter replacements; that probably is why that service is above the average price.

I have not previously had an automatic but I understand from the MG dealer they charge £215 to change and flush the auto gearbox oil & renew the filter. These Hybrids have two which in theory both need changing at 4yrs and 60,000mls. Wonder if we can argue this necessity with perhaps only 20K on the clock at 4yrs?

The standard reply will most likely be that it will be 4 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, This is a standard across all manufacturers' service guidelines. It might be worth checking with an independent garage to see their pricing, using parts with the same specifications as the OEM ones.
The wording in the Warranty statement is as follows:

"Each main service is carried out within 1,500 kilometers or 28 days of the recommended mileage interval or service anniversary date as shown on the Service Interval Plan (within the service portfolio) and that the appropriate service record is communicated to the DSR Portal by the servicing dealer. Whilst the warranty will not be invalidated if a non-authorised repairer carries out this work, Warranty faults resulting from work carried out by a non-authorized repairer may not be covered under the MG Warranty. An itemised service invoice must be obtained."

"Note: To qualify for the MG 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th year warranty, the vehicle must have a full and accurate service history including a VAT invoice, in line with MG Motor Recommended servicing plan, using Original Equipment Specification (OE) parts and fluids.• If a defect arises from non-compliance of manufacturer-recommended service intervals and manufacturer recommendations for care and maintenance, the Authorised MG Repairer reserves the right to reject any subsequent claims.• MG-approved parts are used for repairs effected under warranty, except as an emergency repair, which must be made good within 14 days using components approved by MG."

Quote from dealer - "The service plan would cover the next 3 services plus an MOT on the 3rd year, effectively this should cover the whole term of ownership".

That's an amazing price then @N80SSM, if it's done through the MG website it's around £950 for the first 3 years, so £432 including the first MOT is excellent.
Yes, pleased with that aronld clark are huge up here they seem to be buying up every other dealership just now so maybe they can afford to offer favourable serving costs

Just wonder if the “free” annual AA membership MG give you if you have a service at a main dealer would still be honoured if you use Arnold Clark for example ?

Yes, it says it does and once it's serviced at an MG dealer the free AA cover will continue for another year and so on.

Thanks for that, l am waiting for a plan to be available at Bristol Street Motors and it’s very useful to see the figures from other garages as well as MG of course .

I've just tried to get a quote from Arnold Clarke, but they say they are not an MG approved centre. I asked if that applied at all Arnold Clarke Group and she said it does. Questionable?

The one I'm buying from is an MG Arnold Clark, they said I could take it to any Arnold Clark service centre as my nearest MG one is 30 miles away.

Dear N80SSM

I see you are the owner of an MG4 - so just with a battery right?
Us lot have been talking MG3 Hybrid+ servicing - engine + a motor...
Initially you mentioned enquiring about and MG3 service - £20 would be about right for the 2014 - 2023 MG3.

I have ordered both an mg4 and 3, my comments above relate to the 3 but I also have servicing for the 4 via arnold clark.

Just musing, we pop ours back at year four, so are they expecting us to stump up that so they have a car fully serviced ready to sell then give us peanuts for it?

Something VERY fishy there.

I assume MG UK reads all the threads on here too.
