MG4 Software Update Thread

Couple of other observations from a quick trip, the radio is no longer on automatically when you sit in the seat, you have to 'un pause' it.

Also, is this new on the rear parking sensors, don't recall seeing the distance before?View attachment 21332
That sounds like the version i‘ve got here in Australia. It’s had the distance display from new and the radio doesn’t automatically come on.

Excellent, thanks for that! Sounds like I could be paying the dealer a visit to look to get this update. Have you been able to use LKA since the update, or is it still unusable?
Haven't been that far since the update, however always have LKA turned on and it did seem to be less agressive.....however I have a trip to London on Monday so that will be the real test

Look forward to hearing how you get on with it on that trip. Sounding positive for this update mind you - more bugs fixed than created it seems, which can only be a good thing

I had my trophy in for some updates this week (first updates since December) and so far LKA seems much less intrusive on the bit of motorway driving I've done. More of a gentle nudge than a powerful jerk, however I did notice if the road was curving and the nudge wasn't enough to pull the car back into the lane it did let me drift completely into the next lane. I'm not sure what the goal of LKA is - is it to do its best to keep you there or just a physical prompt to the driver along with the audible beep?

It does sound as if there some improvements with the SE R33, including my #3 complaint, the radio constantly coming on.

My #1 complaint is the infernal central locking. I know it's not a safety issue, but my subconscious doesn't agree, and I get a real shock reaction every time I hear it. It's also a bloody nuisance, because I'm always stopping to pick up friends and having them tug impotently on the door handle.

The Trophy can disable it. I don't know of another car where you can't disable it. This is a bug that needs fixing.

My #2 complaint is the USB player. They provide it, but what they provide is not functional in any normal sense. It also needs fixing.

I'm not a fan of LKA, the MG4 is the third car I've had with it. I have always turned it off. It's something that in my opinion will never be the safety feature it supposed to be. The main problem is it needs really good road markings to work properly, so that rules out country roads and due to lack of money also most of the UK's main roads too, which are let's face it , in a terrible state. I am happy to turn it off but would ideally like it to stay off but I know that won't happen.

My SE SR which I collected on Oct 17 has:

MPU SW169-29958-1100R21
MCU 69.3.5.0

(I am in the UK)

You won't have the external temperature display then, as far as I know. You need to squeal about this until they update you.

It's not just the quality of the road markings. On a twisty A road where you can see round the corners it's normal to take a line to cut the corner that crosses the centre line. The better marked that line is, the worse the result will be.

Yes I drive "the line of least resistance" that's one of the reasons I don't like LKA. But the whole point is it is to keep you in lane so it is never going to accept any deviation from that.

It's a slight pain to have to turn it off every time, but I do it as in years past I would have operated the choke and released the handbrake and put the car in gear and so on. Far less of a hassle than having your steering wheel yanked at random intervals.

I drive down some very good roads, no potholes, good clear line markings on both sides, and the system refuses to see them ?

Correct. No external temperature display. Same problems as you with the MP3 player and door locking after moving off. The LKA doesn't seem too bad (only a gentle tug on the wheel) but I still have to remember to turn it off every time I get in the car.

I consider any sort of a tug on the wheel to be "too bad".
Totally agree, I believe LKA should be exactly that, a gentle proactive 'nudge' to keep you in the lane as you approach the line (as some other car manufacturers have achieved) - and only when it's reliably identified line markings, Not a reactive 'tug' when you're already on the line (or it thinks you are)

I don't even want a gentle nudge. If I need even a gentle nudge, I should not be behind the wheel.
Fair enough, though I never said want or need, but I'm willing to 'accept' a gentle nudge v's a tug.
Otherwise, until then, I (and I believe most other drivers) will just disable the function every time we get in the car, I wonder when/if MG and NCAP will cop on to that fact.

I don't really mind disabling it every time. I don't know how bad the MG system is compared to everyone else's and I'm unlikely to find out. I think it's more up to NCAP, and they're undoubtedly under political pressure not to back down on the requirement, so I doubt that much will change. So long as they don't rule that it can't be disabled - and if they did I think they'd have a riot on their hands - I don't think it's a huge issue.
