What could possibly be wrong ???
Maybe it needs to train more on your voice. When you use your Android phone, that uses different training data to what the car does, I believe.

So if I'm right it's just mishearing your words, other than the word "call".

Edit: I'm assuming that it's car software that is responding to your voice, not the phone. I could be wrong about that. Maybe it doesn't even use the car's microphone, but I assume it has to, or the clarity would be awful. If I'm at least right about that, then perhaps it's the car's microphone; maybe it's come loose from wherever it's mounted.

Edit 2: Seems my assumptions were wrong; see this post.

Re. flexing boot spoiler ... mine does it slightly but as I said yesterday, nothing of concern.

For those who do get updates, my 1100R33 thread I linked earlier gives some feedback as to the changes. (ACC pretty much holding its speed in bends was another of my observations).

I have an MG4 77kWh Essence, and I have an issue with using my mobile phone which is an S22 Samsung.
The problem occurs when I issue the voice command "CALL 'Joe Bloggs' "
The MG4 responds with, and attempts to call somebody entirely different, but never 'Joe Bloggs'????
I am completely at a loss as to what is going on...
What could possibly be wrong ???

I think it's an MG software bug as I have exactly the same problem with my Apple Iphone 12 when using voice command to call someone on my list. I'm sure I've heard others with this problem too. It's definitely not mishearing me as it calls a different contact name which sounds completely different.... quite embarassing when it calls the wrong contact too !! It repeatedly does it too, never calling the contact I speak out. The SatNav voice commands are fine and others too, so the car does recognise my voice and speech correctly ... just the phone contacts ?‍♂️

I've no idea what my car does for setting the ACC speed. When I set it, it is usually several km/h over or under. All I do is one click up or down & it goes to the correct speed. I think if it is over 5 km/h either way I click it twice. It just seem intuitive so I've never thought much about it. Speed limits are always whole numbers anyway in multiples of 10.

I have only used voice control to try it out & when I said things like turn the radio on and Turn Aircon on it did it. I tried to say Call a name and it failed completely. This worked fine in my previous car so from that I'd say it is definitely the car voice software.

On another issue, I emailed MG and told them of the experience taking the car back with the warped under tray & being shown their email saying it was a known issue & for the service agent not to replace parts. I sent the photo of mine and advised that I was lodging a warranty claim but was happy to wait till the resolution was found. I'll hound them at monthly intervals as well as the local service people if I hear nothing.

If I ask it to CALL somebody else, it finds an alternative person to call, but I have to say it is very consistant and will always want to call that person.
I have been right through the contacts list on my phone and downloaded it to a spreadsheet to see if I can locate any problems in the database but it all checks out fine.
I have disconnected then reconnected the Bluetooth and reloaded the contact list, all to no avail.
If I use Android Auto to call sombody, it works perfectly, but not the built in carphone adaptor.

Yep. Mine is 77 kWh essence also with Samsung S23 ultra and the same problem. Not as if there is even a similarity in the names. Ask for Smith and it rings Jones, and always rings the same Jones every time I ask for Smith. I cancel as quickly as I can but forever apologizing to people when they ring back. Just stopped using voice activation and do it manually.

That sounds like a database mismatch. Is Jones perhaps the next entry after or before Smith? Or a constant number of entries? Just curious. And if they use hashing for database lookup, it will appear totally random.

I agree 1km/h makes more sense it was more of a pleasant surprise on receiving the car.

I'm more concerned about the tailgate issue but maybe it's not that bad as i initially thought, will see how it goes but my dealer does do a 1000km check up I'll ask then and check out one of the dealership cars if it's the same.
When I got mine it was fine but loosened off after 1000kms , 40 mins in the dealers workshop fixed it , checked several new cars whilst there and some were already starting too loosen , see if the seal between rear screen and plastic opens slightly when you apply a bit of wobble to the ducktail.

Hi all. Not sure if there are any Aussies here but I guess I'll try.

So the MG4 EV just began selling in Australia 2 weeks ago. Took one for a test drive yesterday and really liked it. Looking to get the base model 51kW. Do we know if this batch is identical to the ones UK/EU got last year or they have made some improvements?

After doing some research, the issues that I am mostly concerned about are:
  1. Some had deformed undertray beneath the rear motor. The ytuber said it is defect and covered under warranty. Can anyone in Aus with MG4 had a look at this and can confirm it has been addressed?
  2. Jerky and potentially dangerous lane keeping assistance (LKA) that forced most users to turn it off. Has a patch rolled out that improved LKA or allowed you to turn it off permanently?
Any other feedback and people's thoughts are appreciated.

Edit: Since this thread is getting a lot of traction, I thought it might be a good idea for fellow aussies to share our honest initial experience with the MG4.
I have an XPower that has LKA issues (too aggressive) and phantom braking with ACC. Outside that fantastic so far (two weeks).

Thanks, I don't see the seal opening when i flex it but I will keep a close eye on it and get it addressed at the dealer if its loose. Has your replacement held up well ?

Another thing I notice is the LKA sensitivity and AEB sensitivity is now low by default (it starts with low even if i change it and shut down car) where as others on forum said it was medium? Must be the new software I got? Maybe after reports of phantom braking.

Smith and Jones used to demonstrate what it does. Not literally Smith and Jones

It was not a replacement, they took off the inner boot lid plastic cover and re- tightened the screws/bolts which fix the ducktail, I suspect it might have rubber mountings to give it a bit of flexibility and these help to loosen it over time. Since it was done ( around 300km ago) it has slightly loosened but not to the extent it was when I took it in. Again moving it up and down, but not forcing it reveals a slight gap on the seals, but it does not leak, good ,considering the amount of rain we have had this Autumn. Like your comments on the LKA etc, what is your software coding number please?

Hi all

FYI MG4 was named 2023 Car of the Year by carsales.com.au

Link below, announced mid November.

I have an Excite 51 on order.

It is a very strange thing indeed...
Originally I had all of my contacts installed using the "+61" or "+64" Country Codes, because I travelled across the ditch quite frequently and it was very convenient for me as all I had to do when I was in NZ was change the SIM and my phone worked as it should. The same applied when I returned to Aus. I have never had any problems using the phone in rental cars with my contacts configured like I describe.
I can assure you that the MG4 does not like this system.

Yesterday I cleared all the contacts out of the S22 and put them all back again using "0" in front of all the numbers, which made mobile numbers "0408" "0427" etc. and "02" or "03" etc. for the landline numbers, and I put "0011 64" in front of all the NZ numbers.
The phone on its own works as expected, but when used as a handsfree carphone in the MG4 it still has the same old problem.

It is not as though the Voice system in the car doesn't understand me, because it responds with exactly the name I requested and then it comes back with the different person, and as you say it is completely consistent with its choice.

I have about 136 names in my Contact List and I intend for my next trick, to backup all my contacts, and then re-load about 25 of them and see if that makes any difference.
I will keep you informed about how I get on with this test.

Well that didn't work either, I tried to phone my wife but wound up calling somebody in New Zealand.
I think maybe that I might get my old phone charged up and see if that works.

I shouldn't say that I am pleased to see that you are having the same problem as me, but you have saved me from charging up an old phone, swapping SIM's and finding that I still have the same problem.
I have lodged a fault with the dealer I bought the car from, but so far no reply.
Thankyou for your comment.

software is MPU 1100R05 MCU -125.1.3.0. I don't think we have the same version numbers as European software.

Yeah the auto update thing is disabled for our cars.

You can see the media version (the RXX number people talk about above) in the normal details screen - the R numbers are not sequential outside of the same spec vehicle in the same country. Essence and Excite are on different numbering, and I would bet XPower is too.

You can see a few more version numbers if you access the "secret" menu - you can find the thread on here with the code and instructions for that.

But none of those versions you will find will tell the complete picture though. It doesn't show versions of other modules within the car for example.
