Can a common theme be identified?

For example, were all the car's manufacture in a particular month? Or were they charged using a 3-phase supply? Were they of particular colours? At what mileages did the problem occur? Did the problem arise after/before the first service?

One would hope MG would be asking these questions in case @Rolfe is correct. And I for one will be very upset.

Mind you, how much AC charging do you do? I would have thought you would be less inconvenienced by this than many owners. (Now if you got the DC charging issue, that would be a different matter, but that seems much less common.)

We don't know the cause but we do know it is a hardware failure. Could be a manufacturing or design fault. If manufacturing, may only affect certain batches. If design, could affect everyone with that version.

Could take another 6 months to see if the replacements have the same fault or are better.

Good point, which herself noted when I told her about this issue, to make her aware if she gets caught. We try to charge on the AC when we go to the village, as it's half the extortion the Highland Council charges. But when away from home, yes, it's almost always DC.

Hi Everyone,

Looks like you have another owner with a problem ?

MG Trophy, 1 year old, no charging issues at all on Octopus Go with an Ohme ePod.

Since Friday its only taken a small amount of charge overnight
Friday 17.4kWh
Saturday 17.1kWh
Sunday 7.5kWh
Monday 5.8kWh

No changes in settings for months.

Now I have to play faultfinder - is it Octopus? The Cable? The Ohme ePod? The Car?

Charged up on fast charger without issue (apart from the fact it costs 9X more)

I'll let you know how I get on but this issue isn't great. I'm a total convert to EV cars but this is the first problem I've had and it's a pretty major one that'll take up a lot of my time.

Oh dear. You could try cutting to the chase and going straight to your dealer with the diagnosis. At least if it is this issue, you know it has a fix.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Just sorry we're not meeting under happier circumstances.

Luckily I was booked in for a service Monday so I've told them I want this investigating instead.
Trying a friend's Tesla cable tonight and then will try the local Aldi charger tomorrow and see if the same thing happens.

I feel sorry for people that aren't as tech savvy as this can cause a major headache.

You've probably read the trouble the first people to encounter the problem had. If it's any comfort, at least it's now a well-trodden path, and the necessary parts seem now to be readily available. It's possible your dealer has already dealt with someone else who had the problem.

Also try and establish how long it charges for before it fails. Some dealers have just plugged it in saw it works and said there's no problem! If you know it takes about x minutes you can ask them how long it was plugged in for.

So, as thought, it’s not an issue with the cable as the Tesla one didn’t work either.

Currently sitting at an expensive DC charger and it’s working fine.

Will try the 3 pin plug later but not holding my breath.

Get it into your dealer. Sounds like the same issue the rest of us are experiencing.

Mine first went in on 29th April. MG are making the dealer jump through all sorts of hoops. The garage still have the car today. Although I do have a courtesy car (MG3).

Make sure you've documented everything you've tried, and submit that to the dealer ... that should help short-circuit all the initial guff they'll suggest (hopefully).

I did all that. I've also had no problems with the dealer agreeing what's up.

MG on the other hand have insisted on updating the car software (good, as it fixes ACC and LKA). MG made them replace the charging socket itself. They've then asked the dealer to reflash all the software. I'm now waiting confirmation of them ordering the CCU, which was the next step. I should find out today.

Apparently they are readily available but MG are reluctant to go straight to CCU until above steps were done due to the cost of the part. All of the above are interspersed with a day or two wait time for MG to update the service ticket. It's really a very poor customer experience, and one my dealer can't do anything about.
