Shock, Horror, Gobsmacked - I've left Octopus!

In the summer months utilita does appear to be a good deal, with its zero standing charge? and sensible rates thereafter:
First Rate 52.25p per kWh (I thinks its the 1st 2kWh)
Saver Rate 20.91p per kWh

It's an interesting thought. Octopus is a big company now. They have the overheads of a big company. They spend a lot on promotion. They just gave away three brand new cars. Could they even afford to get close to Tomato's prices if this develops into a real price war?

Presumably the fact they don't offer Gas will be off putting for some? Not sure I want a Gas supplier and an Electric supplier!

For properties without Gas supply looks good...

We will be finding out for sure over the next few months, the look and feel of Tomato is very much like Octopus so time will tell, I'm happy to take a hit for the forum to find out

i personally don’t see that as an issue, no different to water, comms and energy being different companies.

Fair point on the different utilities.

John, you could do a public service and build a tool so I can upload my smart meter data from Octopus and it can tell me how it would compare to Tomato that would be great :)

I don't quite understand how their standing charges can undercut other providers, thought these were more or less set by the regulator?

Good luck on that - never again with EoN for ourselves.
I'm leaving Eon and going to Tomato, which should save me around £600. :)

As an aside, Eon removed my gas meter in July, stopped charging me a standing charge, and yet wanted to charge me for gas when I tried to move to a new tariff.

email me your Octopus data and your tariff details and I can rattle it through my spreadsheet in no time and give you a figure.

From Ofgem:

"The standing charges are the maximum costs a supplier can charge a customer who has not used any energy. Suppliers can also charge less than the limit for either standing charge or unit rate."

Sorry for the Ignorance, but will you still export to octopus or switch over to Tomato?
Tomato dont do export tariffs yet. I've just had the conversation with Octopus and they say I can still export to them and they will supply gas only on their tracker tariff which is perfect for me.

Big shout out for @johnb80 (down with the kids)

I have now signed up to tomato, change over on the 6th. With John's assistance he worked out that I will be over £300 per year better off, and that is before the next new price cap as tomato is fixed for a year.

Well done! I do hope it works out for all of us, I cant find any downside yet and my changeover happened yesterday, all good so far!
