Yes the car has had updates so they tell me from day one but to no avail, they tell me the default screen is a normal function ?

what is a default screen, could you post a photo of it please or explain what's on it? I don't have any recorded messages on startup with a date ... is this on screen or voice message?

Fist one of the day usually says January 2019. The rest are the correct day. Just a minor bug like service requirement fault indicator every 600 miles. Dead reckoning not working also and which therefore is switched off.

@david jackson
I have a Trophy, but I assume you have the Trophy Connect if you have the date announcement. I think it’s just an anomaly that it’s incorrect unfortunately. Hopefully it will be fixed. Eventually…..

With regards to the ‘default screen’ issue that you describe, I’m pretty sure that mine stays on whatever I set, however, since I prefer the screen with the car driving down the road, I don’t use the other screens very much.

Ah, I know what you are talking about now. The screen with the car on it will keep on jumping in when you are trying to see your your miles/kWh. It's a PITA.

I know they are normal screens, but you shouldn't have to keep on changing to the one you were on after you switch the car off.

yes, it's same on mine and I also prefer driving with battery usage screen instead of default one ... from memory, there are some legal requirements that some safety features must be turned on and that's probably why the screen always start like that, instruction manual describes it as: "MG Pilot Displays the active safety information of the vehicle."

Same as laptop, when you switch it off, it shuts all programmes off and starts afresh when you turn it on next time

Over the last few days, I have deliberately switched the driver’s screen to anything other than the ‘car on the road’ screen. When I have restarted the car, it has stayed on whatever I set last time. How weird that the same model of car can behave so differently!

Your car needs software update so that it always goes on the default screen!
??

Now you got me, I'll have to check what happens with my screen

I would happily accept the described default screen behaviour if in turn the manual speed assistant (i.e. Limiter) would stay activated. The Screen change button is hardware and prominent on steering wheel, while MSA is way down in touchscreen menues and requires about 6 to 7 touchscreen actions to activate.

Yep, that's how it is. An annoyance that won't change. Same as the regen braking always starting in max, and the drive mode always starting in normal.

This is a Chinese car, they have enough work trying to fix the faults, they're just not going to get onto the "could be betters".

Using brakes rather than regen on cruise control is a massive disaster, but they've never felt the need to address even that, so do whatever it is you do to relax, then try to move on.

Indeed I've seen the new ZS on the way for next year I believe. It's the modern way, why make something perfect when you can just sell another one? ?

Just as an aside, in my Leaf I have to click the touchscreen every single time I start the car to give my consent to their data collection. If I don't I can't use the screen, music, nav, etc etc.

Every single time! Who's bloody fantastic idea was that?!?!?!??!

Mine stays on whatever the last screen selected, mileage/ range etc. but I don't use cruise control very often as on rural roads 90% of time.

if turning the cruise control /radar stalk to on (pulling towards you,) it will switch to radar screen automatically,
I think if you have the cruise stalk upwards (half on) then the screen might default to radar view when you turn on the car each time

. I'll check this next time I get into it.

I leave my cruise control turned fully off all the time ( cruise stalk pushed furthest away) .

As you say it disappointing that the cruise control doesn't use regen to slow down , about the only time I use it nowadays is for the traffic jam start stop. I don't bother with it too much when on dual carriageway or motorway as no regen.

The lane assist is very aggressive too, which is why I leave it off unless using cruise control on a straight road,

my ford Kuga lane assist is so subtle you hardly notice it, very mature technology

, but the mg feels like it's going to jerk you into oncoming traffic sometimes.

If you use ACC with double pull of the stalk, it works perfectly keeping in-between lines on good roads, works like a dream, keeps it very smooth. ? I personally can't be bothered following another car and my speed depending on their whims ...

Yep thanks, I have it disabled in the system menus
and use the double pull of the cruise control stalk to activate it, rarely use it unless good straightish roads.
