Should I get a Xpower

Remind me of your issue? I was talking about general enhancements.
We were talking about poor MG aftersales service / expensive parts / long delays in getting booked in for warranty issues / having to pay for software updates etc. / no fixes for some issues and complete denial from SAIC that some faults (e.g Xpower vibration) exist even though MG Australia even delayed selling Xpowers because of the vibration issue. Apparently it's "just a characteristic" of the Xpower to them (SAIC), but has probably secretly been fixed in newer models.

As I said before though ... I love the Xpower as a car (apart from minor vibes on mine) and would buy another if the aftersales / dealers were up to scratch.

Yes, that's not good. We can only hope that situation improves as we / dealers give feedback, but more likely, intense competition forces them to improve.

My personal story.......in brief.

Owned the car a year.

Had vibes and an intermittent rear camera issue.

Changed tyres, vibes minimal.

Temperature sensor fault.

Fixed at second attempt.

Just had first service rear camera changed.

10000 miles in and yes, I could have got the camera done earlier but didn't get round to it.

I now have a local (ish) dealer I'm happy with and seem knowledgeable and attentive.

Not always the case for folk on here!

MG seem to have nailed the vibes on later cars and will do so on earlier cars at some point.

The X Power in particular has only been here a year and the regular car only a year before that so I am not surprised there have been teething issues.

The gearbox oil leak on early cars is now a thing of the past and I expect the vibe issue to go the same way.

It's a great package at an even better price now and unbeatable performance per pound spent.

In this modern era of social media we are lucky enough to see all those who have gone before us and make an informed choice.

(Not me though as I had the first X Power on the road last year!)

'You pays your money and takes your choice'

I have no hesitation in recommending the X Power, it is an excellent car.

If you can pair that up with a local, knowledgeable, helpful dealer, then it is worth your consideration.
I guess with anything expensive, significant research is required beforehand.

and I must have been a close 2nd or thereabouts !!! ?? .......... collected mine 25th September 2023.

I did the deal on August 29th 2023.

Here it is before the test drive.

I have a private plate on it now.

Not an xpower owner (just a lowly Trophy LR) but I keep hearing (reading!) about poor dealerships. I haven’t experienced this at all ! I use Unity MG in Coventry, they’ve been really good. No issues with the car (LKA apart), and at booking the first service I was told that it would take a couple of hours - as the car would need some software updates. All done and dusted exactly as they promised - even LKA is much improved. Good luck with whatever car you choose ??

Yeah, the dealer (salesman) I purchased ex demo Xpower from was very poor, not doing updates as requested. Their technician was actually very good and embarrassed about their lousy comms. How my local dealer in Bognor, Richmond group was very good. Everyone considering a purchase (of anything) should check out proposed dealer on Trust Pilot beforehand.

Make sure you get a 2024 BUILD, you could find it was registered in 2024 but built in 2023.

I have had no issues with my X Power apart from the vibration/hum from 65-75mph, this seems to only affect the 2023 build models.
Not really true for me. I have a 2023 XPower and the 70mph vibration feel is practically negligible now after 8000 miles. It never concerned me that much from the start and is hardly noticeable now.

I’ve had mine 4 days, I bloomin love it!!

This is my first EV, it was close to a bargain!
The MG dealership had money to give away so that reduced the cost by £3k and I’ve switched to PCP from a lease on a RAV4 and I’m paying less pm now :)
I just need to work out how to charge it lol

Had mine just over a week and wouldn't return it even if I had the chance, had a small issues with the ODB2 scanner setting off the alarm, easy fix.

I think I have the vibe issue but it's so small to be honest I'm not 100% sure I would have noticed it. I may have after I got over the "child with a new toy" phase I am still in.

I haven't tried energy saving yet to see how far I can actually make the car go, not been on any real long trips yet.

When you use the acceleration capabilities of the car it puts smile on your face, every time!

Handling is great and all you need on public roads. It feels planted on the road and gives a lot of confidence.

I haven't had any experience with the dealer servicing so can't comment on that.

All in all a great car I wouldn't change.

Get Green, it looks the best with the orange caliper covers :)

Still thinking of swapping out my 72 plate trophy for an xpower (did enquire when the xpower first landed).
However I like a good deal and am unsure as to wait until my 4 year pcp is nearly up or look over the next few months to swap.
Currently owe around £16k on mine, so I think close to the 50%.

This was my first foray into pcp ownership, so im not too confident of the correct thing to do in these times.

Done 20k miles in my trophy without any effort, and still a great car to drive.

Any advice out there ?

No harm in asking- worst thing you can get told is a number that is too high e.g. doesn't make sense financially.

Best thing would be that that number isn't too unpalatable. Plus when you first get a bit of empty road/a tailgating Range Rover you'll not have time to remember what that number was anyway.

Regarding the numbers, if your dealership can make a few more quid out of you, I'm pretty sure they'll be happy to help.

I usually ring the PCP finance company and ask for a settlement value so you get the exact amount owed at the current time. Then go onto online buying companies (Motorway, Carwow, Motordough, WBAC, Arnold Clarke etc.) and see what they offer for your car. It will usually be better than a dealer offers. You can then work out the rough amount of any profit / loss on your current Trophy.

Since the biggest depreciation happens earlier in the car's life it usually takes quite a while (2 to 3 years) for it to be worthwhile settling PCP and swapping cars in my experience. Two and a half years seemed a sweet spot for me in the past as the car you sell still had manufacturers warranty etc. and no MOT / 3rd Service to do yourself.

If your car is worth a lot less than the settlement figure (or final balloon payment even !) you may be best financially to keep it the full four years and hand the car back rather than pay the final balloon payment. I've never had to do this myself before (as I've been in profit) but the MG4 has depreciated a lot and I may have to do this myself this time !!

Are you taking into account the GMFV amount (AKA Balloon Payment)? That forms part of the overall finance package ... the 50% point in a 4 year PCP tends to arrive after about 3 years 4 months or so.
