Hi,

Our car has aprox 4200 miles on and was registered in nov20. It is telling me that service is due in 10800 miles, or so. Is this right, or should I get it serviced in Nov this year. That mileage will take us to next summer & it will be 18 month old

Thanks - Rob

Hi Rob - I am not 100% sure on the ZS EV - But with most manufactures it is 12 months OR 10,000 miles.
Which ever comes first !.
You are unlikely to get close to the mileage figure, so you are going to get caught on the date.
I think you are given about a months grace on the date, but don't forget it needs to be serviced in line with the spec's laid down to comply with the T&C's of the warranty.

Hi Rob, I suspect, like most cars, the service interval is either reaching the preset mileage or one year, whichever comes first. Approaching the one year interval I suspect you will get “service due” message if you have not reached the mileage.

It’s 12 months or 15k miles on the ZS EV for servicing

It is the same for my current ZS petrol. A friend of mine recently traded his petrol ZS for a MG5. Due to lockdown he had missed the second service which the garage said invalidated the warranty.

He therefore had to pay to get this service done. I would imagine that the garage will be in touch with you to arrange the service. My dealer - Eric Stead is very efficient in this respect.

It's detailed on the MG website Servicing Schedules & Digital Records
Didn't realise till I read this that there is a different routine for 2019-2020 cars and 2021 onward cars:

Later cars have a reduced mileage option so I presume this comes at a lower cost.
There must be a pile of stuff in addition to this that is just inspected.

Joe i am sure i have seen somewhere if you have a service plan and do less than the 15k the service plan is reduced (It may have been on the MG web site not sure tho)

I was advised by our MG supplier garage to take the car in for service at the first anniversary, which we did earlier this year.

As our car has always performed to expectations we opted not to have any further software updates - after the original change to external temp display etc.

The first service was a simple affair and about £100 from memory.

Yes @Tim Green the price of the first service does fluctuate a bit, but from memory I think I paid just under £100.
No “Tick Box” sheet supplied with my car, but after reading a sheet supplied by another member, there is not work actual work done.
More about a “Health Check” really and top up the washer bottle, which they charge you for the solution they use !.
You need the service to comply with the T&C’s of the warranty unfortunately.

Mine was at 15000 in year one and I paid about £136, but let’s not forget the extended AA cover is included…bargin

Does anyone have a breakdown of what they were actually charged for at the first service?

@Joe some owners where given a “Tick Box” sheet that high lighted what had been checked / done on the first service.
I just received a receipt / invoice that said :- “Carry out first service” or words to that effect.
No paper copy of the service records for the customer any more ( worst luck ) it’s all stored on a data base.
I am not sure if that is a national or dealer data base.
Any warranty work claims, will be stored by MG themselves I guess.

get it serviced every November to make sure your warranty is secure.

Servicing requirements on EV’s are minimal. I can’t help thinking that its all just a way of trying to maintain servicing revenue from customers. I know that this has been said before on other threads but it’s worth repeating.
Tesla for example have no mandatory servicing requirements and no condition of servicing for warranty - I can’t believe MG has servicing requirements over and above those of a Tesla.
If you’re able to see the MG service schedule it’s obvious that the only 2 items that you could remotely call necessary are coolant and brake fluid change - although again other EV’s have a lifetime coolant and any competent garage can change brake fluid.
Even modern ICE cars tend to run servicing every 24 Months now - so to have annual servicing requirements on an EV is ridiculous.
The issue of course is owners will not want to get the warranty push back from MG due to lack of servicing (myself included) - even though this could have no connection to the warranty issue whatsoever. (MG so far look to be at the sharp end of acceptance when reviewing warranty claims)
MG has also tried to wrap in AA cover as part of the service but most new cars come with a minimum 3 Years breakdown cover anyway - this should not be conditional on a service either. There was an opportunity to ditch the traditional approach to servicing but they have opted not to, not because the cars need servicing but to try and keep dealers happy And squeeze a little more money from the owners.

I totally agree with all you have said !.
The service departments are chasing work all of the time, with the increase in EV take up, their through put is reducing.
They can feel it all slipping away. slowly but surely.
Never mind, they have had it SO GOOD for such a long time it has to be said.
My son has a VW Tiguan that has been serviced at the main agents since new.
The dealer keeps has calling him almost on a weekly basis, to tell him that the car is over due for a service.
He has told them TWICE that it is not due until mid July, but they keep calling and wanting to book the car in, "Because we get busy over the summer months !."
B.S. - They are just chasing the work before anybody else grabs it from them.
My son has told them, if they ring one more time, he will not be taking it in for the service with them at all !.
The car is now out of warranty and they know it could be serviced by a good independent garage at a much cheaper price.

If the servicing work is predominately labour, I suppose you can still play off one dealer against another in terms of their hourly rates.

@Lincs Robert have a look at this thread as it’s likely you’re a candidate for MG’s low mileage service plan and I’m pretty sure you can still take it out.
