MG4 Software Update Thread

I updated via SIPS before updating to R46, when I updated to R46 and MCU I actually put an older version on
I think that's why they say to update MCU via SIPS so you can see which version the car has & what the latest version is
The MCU effects how the infotainment interacts with the rest of the car for example ⭐ buttons
The latest is 68.4.7.0 via SIPS which is the same as R59, R46 comes with 68.4.3.0
Correct me if I misunderstood, so when you do the update process via USB in addition to the AVN also the MCU is updated with the version that is in the package?

You can do it if you wish but don't have to
Software loading guide says to do it via USB as shown here
Like I said the only way to know what's on the USB is to load it as that detail isn't provided, probably why they updated their instructions on the TSB

When I updated my 1300R30 to 1300R46 I failed to update the MCU as well the first time and this resulted in the left star button not working as many people report, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is something some garages have missed also.

(Yes it is included but you have to take the extra step to actually update it as well as the MPU)

Glad they've made you happy :)

that software version is only for the infotainment system so doesn't affect how LKA works. LKA is in a different module which was updated a while back (so they have done that for you as well as R59) and made quite a difference at the time, I'd be interested if its been updated again but these module versions are hard to identify

I think R59 does give you the easy access button to turn it off though, but also cripples the wifi hotspot
Thanks Dave99,
I would be interested to know more about assigining an easy access button to LKA, I must have a dig around with our still sluggish info screen, but TBH, the LKA is so much better, I dont need to turn it off at all, just a gentle reminder occasionally.
It's a bit like taking a powerful analgesic for toothache, but so far it's working PERFIK and the PAIN is gone forever.

It's happening now... AVN MPU already updated. Now ECU. From R26 to R46. Finally I have decent buttons that I can press with my fingers...

Done. Star buttons OK.

it's amazing how quick and easy it is to update

it means you cannot swipe down the MG menus from the top bar when AA is running - you'd have to exit AA using the home button first
Or double press the fan button to get to the AC menu and press the phone button to get back to Android auto.

Now that ELK,/LKA is easy to turn off there is much less to grumble about with the MG4. It is really down to ACC slowing excessively in corners and when overtaking and the air conditioning being tricky to get right. I had mine at 26C today and still needed to hear the seats. Yesterday it wasn't doing much at 25C.

In an ideal world Google maps would see my charger level and predict my charge at destination like ABRP but that's just me chasing the ideal.

I think the MG could have made better use of the key mappings. We can turn the volume up and down in a few ways but dedicated shortcut keys for ELK, AA/Carplay and AC would be handy. Perhaps a long press on home or pressing home when in the car menus for AA would be possible. More choice commands to toggle settings especially MG Pilot would be good.

I'm guessing the update lost a few posts as I got this one as a notification & email just as the site went down but notification & post weren't there when it came back up

It lost my posts too when the site went down.

In reply to your post I think I said that MG will only pay the dealers for updating the software if there is a fault. They might have thought the fault was caused by AA and not the car. Another reason is MG's servers might have been down so the dealer couldn't do the updates.

I'd book the car in again and tell them that Bluetooth keeps dropping out and the DAB looses the station.

R46 works well, compared to R26 it is faster and it does not crash every now and then when you closed and reopened the car, but the bluetooth pairing bug seems worse.

I've ordered an SE LR via Tusker. Been in contact with the dealer who has said they'll make sure the software is fully updated. I absolutely hated how violent the LKA acted when I drove someone's Trophy, so I'm glad to see that's been fixed

You will need to check when you get it as saying they are going to do it and doing it are 2 very different things.
It is still crap on some cars and has varying degrees of intrusiveness between crap and acceptable.

How they can't get them all acceptable is beyond me

Yeah of course. Once they say it's ready to be delivered I'll ask them to tell me the versions and will check it myself on delivery

The key thing is to ensure that the Infotainment is at 1100R33 ... I think that also requires some "under the hood" software modules to be updated in tandem, such updates providing necessary improvements. :)

I decided to upgrade to R59. Internet works, weather works, star button ok, hotspot works with manual DNS. I didn't update FICM ECU. Should I?

Now finally LKA shortcut, better keyboard, better buttons, EV route planner, better AC UI.
Sorry for the enthusiasm, but coming from the R26 which was an absolute mess to this is a great achievement I think I'll stick with it for a while now
