Crash due to Lane keep assist.

Has anybody turned off the LKA only to have it reset itself 5-10 mins later. This happens frequently.

No, but the driver alertness system does reset its self every time you drop below the activation threshold - thankfully the beeps for that can be turned off and stay off.

I don't even know what that means.
Probably means the failed sensor system that they removed from the steering column.

That is/was a bug in the Trophy spec models (which includes the XP in terms of trim) ... when the Infotainment is set to Auto day/night theme it switches based on whether or not the lights come on. That switching (I can't remember which way) caused LKA to turn back on. I believe there's a fix for this.

Correct. There is video on youtube about it.

I think that was only the Trophy. I've never had that.

Two or three times, no more, I've had the LKA turn back on shortly after driving away. I think it didn't turn off properly - at least once I didn't get the confirmation screen. Other than that, it stays off unless I get out of the car.

Yes, I have this happen quite frequently. I have noticed that having turned LKA OFF on startup, if I then drive under a road bridge the car thinks it is night time and goes into night time mode. This then activates the LKA to come back on without driver interaction and gives no warning. After emerging from the bridge underpass and back into the light everything goes back into daylight mode and, driving onward, the car will give an unexpected 'tug' if it assumes there is a white line or similar that is being crossed. Of course being unprepared for this and knowing that I had turned the option OFF it does come as shock.
I have reported this fault to MG, (accompanied by video proof) and they pointed me back to the dealer who is investigating.
Hope this helps

I had believed this Trophy-only bug had been fixed in a later software update. Which version of the infotainment software do you have installed on your car?

...............What I'd like to know from you guys is does anyone know of any other accidents involving the LKA or of anyone else returning their Cars.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a mill

As @Rolfe says above email Which Magazine with full details - they are on the case👍

Quote from Which :-

"We want to hear from you

Have you experienced similar problems with the MG4 or any other car? Do you have strong feelings about lane and steering-assist systems more generally? If so, we want to hear from you.

Send your comments to [email protected]. "

Just had the latest version installed today and they say this should cure the problem. Too early for me to tell as yet but I am keeping my fingers crossed

Thing is, I'm using a EU regulation to make them understand they need to step up, or to pay me back. Not sure you can use the same arguments in Scotland.
Hi
If the EU Regulation was in force before the UK left the EU (Dec 2020) it was automatically transposed into UK law when Brexit happened.

oops missed the version number. The new software just installed is R59 and so far so good.

I'm sure you've all told me where to find the software version number, but I can't find it. I want to check which version our 23 Trophy has.

Update, my IT tech lad found software numbers on our MG4, and they end R40.

OK, this is how I managed to find it
1. ensure you have started the car and the screen displays are up and working
2. using the larger 'entertainment screen' swipe left on that screen
3. find 'settings' and press that icon
4. a settings screen will then be displayed
5. you will be presented with a number of options - like 'brightness, background theme, language etc' a little bit to the right of those options you should find other options (like general, bluetooth etc.) - YOU need the one named 'system' so scroll a little further down until you can select it.
6. press that system option and a new screen will be presented
7. that will show things like entertainment system - under that heading will be a string of numbers and dashes. The very last 3 characters will be the versions number (like R59)
Hope this helps

Hi all...first post on here so please go easy on me.
We have a MG4, bought new last year and we've done about 30k km.
It's a great little car but we've literally been wrestling with its very well known lane keeping assist issues.
We live in rural part of Ireland and the LKA makes the Car very unsafe on leafy, shadowy and shady roads.
We've had many near misses and have kept MG Cars informed about this.
They keep promising a software update to address the issue but it never materialises.
Anyway, I know this is a well covered topic so I'll try and keep it short.
A couple of weeks ago my young daughter who only recently passed her test borrowed the Car and the LKA drove the car off the road into the ditch.
The tyre was burst and there may be suspension damage too.
I had the Car towed back to the dealer from the scene as this was the last straw for us.
We're currently in dispute with the main dealer over all this.
We would either like the Car updated and made safe or for them to take it back.
I believe that this is a problem worthy of a recall.
What I'd like to know from you guys is does anyone know of any other accidents involving the LKA or of anyone else returning their Cars.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
