All season tyre choices

Me too - won’t buy Pirelli’s again.

3" snow here today. My Pirelli SottoZero Winter tyres were fine while other drivers were getting stuck. They do drone a bit though.

Just purchased 4 new Cross Climate 2's today (not getting fitted till Wednesday) as I and my wife have no confidence in the crap Conti C's that are on it. As soon as it's damp they grip absolutely nothing. So after 13k miles they're getting binned. Got another 2 years with the car, so the CC2's should see it out no problem.

Going to get set for my XC70 (only had it a few months) as well once I get to try out the Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires that came on when imported over. Hopefully get some decent snow here soon, its been pitiful so far.

As I've said elsewhere, I have used Bridgestone Weather Control A005 (may be superceded) and CC2. Both good and the A005s are A rated wet grip.

Auto Express used to rate Kinergy 4S2, but I haven't used them.

BF gives 20% on certain brands including Michelin at National Tyres.

Just had to replace one of my rear tyres due to puncture and went with the Bridgestone Turanza 6 all season. Definately an improvement over the factory tyres. Getting the opposite side replaced next week after payday.

Just had my second year Service in my SE SR, 14,400 miles and 2 rear tyres are 2mm n/s/f down to 3mm and the last one 5mm.

I have just taken the plunge and ordered the Tur6 Turanza from Costco. £360 for all 4.

That's the summer version of the tyre. The all season Turanza has a different tread pattern, and is more expensive.

I am now seeing the Michelin Primacy 4+ for the same price, Is this any better so I can cancel.

Goodyear Vectors and Michelin Cross Climates have similar performance on everything except total number of miles (wear rating) on the tyre reviews sites. I do a lot of miles, so I chose the Vectors.

Was waiting to see what Black Circles would do for BF…wish I hadn’t bothered! They had 15% off all season tyres yesterday and from today it’s gone, replaced with 10% off budgets and 15% off certain tyres, not including the Michelins

This is now down to £390.

I live in the Kent and you recon this will be better that the Summer version of the Turanza as I was focused more on the wet grip than the Ice and snow grip.

If you never had good all-season tyres I suggest you fit those first then you can make up your own mind. Otherwise just trust the reputable tests like the ones from tyrereviews.com

I have snow socks for my Turanza 6 when it snows, but I also do not depend on the car as much and don't do that many miles. If I did, or lived in a rural area, I would definitely opt for a modern all-season or winter tyre depending on how likely it is I encounter snow and ice. Either way, it's an investment in safety and I can't underline how much difference a tyre can make.

Thanks for the pointer, I have cancelled the Summer one and gone for the 4 seasons one instead. its just a £30 diff so why not.

I know there are some threads on here regarding tyres, but thought a current, all-seasons thread would be useful.

That being said, anyone know what the best options are for the MG4? I see the following:

Michelin Cross Climate 2
Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6
Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons (Gen 2 or 3)
Hankook Kinergy 4S
Continental All Season Contact 2
Avon AS7 All Season

I’m sure there are others, but these seem to be the main competitors.

I’ve personally had great experiences with Goodyear on ICE cars, albeit not all season tyres, and I also had good experiences with Hankook on ICE cars. On the MG4, I have no idea, other than what I do know is the stock tyres have become totally useless in the colder weather - the rear end has stepped out on me more times than I can remember, and all too often on roundabouts at low speed!

The car is quickly becoming like Bambi on ice skates!

Anyone with some experience of any of the above, or other tyres? Want something that grips pretty well, but isn’t so soft that I’m changing them in another 8-10k miles, as that’s happened to me in the past on an ICE car.

The stock tyres have lasted well over 20k, but I’ve stuck with them, rather than liked them. They don’t fill me full of confidence, especially on wet, cold roads.

I can highly recommend the standard Cross Climate 2 'all season' ( they're also EV compliant ). I put these on ( new ) as soon as I got the car ( new ) last November ( 2023 ) as I used the same type on my Chrysler Voyager people carrier, a VW Passat and an S type Jag as, In my personal experience, they have proved to be the best all rounder for all weather and road conditions, including snow and ice. I've also used Conti 'all weathers' too prior to coming across the Miches which are a great second best ( in my humble opinion ), which I used for several years on both large and small saloons all year round.
Just had my first service today ( MG4 ER ) and very happy to report that all tyres have worn evenly across the whole widths and only lost half a mil. in 8000 miles of brisk driving on all road types. quiet and comfy too. Worth every penny @ £ 600 all inc.

This is definitely something Im looking into. My ER MG4 was in for its first service today. It's only done 3500 miles in 12 months. Mostly town driving. I do not drive like a loon. However, I was pretty shocked to get tyre wear at 40 to 50%. The rears worse than the fronts and have 4.5mm on both tyres. Are the standard fit tyres known to wear so fast? I haven't checked them myself, but I have lovely video from Stoneacre of the depths being measured. With the standard tyres it can get a bit slippy in the wet at relatively low speeds and grip feel scarily light at 60 mph plus.

My 2022 LR (on 17s) had 6 and 6.5mm at the first service after 8K miles.

I've always been pleased with the performance of CC2 and the Bridgestone Weather Control tyres and also the wear of CC2. We got nearly 40K from a set of CC2s (or were they CC+, I can't remember...)

Why are you saying tyre wear at 40-50%? The standard fit tyres have a shallower tread depth from new I believe ... they don't start with 8.5-9mm tread depth.
