I'm not sure if it applies in other towns and cities, but Leeds City Council provide free parking at Council-owned car parks and on-street parking bays for EVs. Mine came yesterday. It might be worth checking with your local council to see if they do the same.

I've just done a quick search online, no such luck where I live, but I did find out the local council offers one free 22kW charger!(y)

I applied for the Leeds one and was told it's only for residents of Leeds though.
Rotherham doesn't have it, but Sheffield does and because Rotherham has a Sheffield post code I managed to get a free permit for Sheffield. I've not used it yet, due to Covid and it's due for renewal at the end of this month.

How do you get a permit @Kithmo ?

Yes its brilliant went to Leeds last week and used Woodhouse Lane multi storey ,very handy for Town Centre parking

Found the form and completed the application.
It's all ANPR based so you don't get a sticker or anything, but once you get it approved, you can apply for a green clock card (like the blue ones disabled drivers have) to park in the time limited car parks as well.

Think Glasgow used to do similar with their charging bays, but it was suggested that too many people were taking the piss and either parking but not charging, or were charging, but were parking for free all day every day. So now there's regular parking charges through the day.

To be honest we don’t really go into Sheffield city centre much. If I takeMrs C in she has a blue badge which we use. I am sure that it will come in useful on the odd occasion.
Same here, it's handy to have it though.
The have just put some some free chargers with free parking spots in Sheffield as well.

Slightly off topic but 'blue badges!' My old Mam still has her blue disability badge because she's wheelchair bound, when I took her for a hospital appointment at Bolton hospital recently I parked in the disabled bays & displayed the blue badge on the dashboard.

Parkingeye has taken over car park duties with new cameras & contactless payment machines at Bolton hospital. I paid the car park fee on leaving (even though I think it's free parking for blue badge holders?), Four days later I receive a £70 parking fine in the post

I filled in their online appeal form with pics of Mams blue badge & bank transaction for the parking fee (lost the receipt:rolleyes:) and had to wait two weeks before they replied & cancelled the fine, It was my fault according to them as you're supposed to register the vehicle you use for that blue badge with the main reception in the hospital, Nothing on any signpost about having to do that  So be warned if you use disability parking bays in parkingeye monitored car parks.

If it doesn't say to register on the signs then they haven't got a leg to stand on. Sounds like they were trying it on to get the £70.

Yes it makes you wonder how many people just pay up & not fight it. Faceless organisation and it wasn't easy for an old guy like me to fathom out their website for appealing, everything seemed to be geared to PAY NOW to reduce the fine to £30. the hospital car park is private property yada yada yada. Just glad they cancelled mine.

That sounds nonsense @chowbenter. My wife is a frequent visitor to the Hallamshire, here in Sheffield. The parking signs just say that a blue badge should be displayed.
I went into the main reception desk & registered my MGZSev which she said I only have to do once and it will last until the expiry date on the blue badge unless I use a different car which that will have to be registered.

I'm surprised you didn't get another ticket while you were registering it, they're like Ninjas these, born out of wedlock, enforcement officers, waiting behind cover until you leave.

This is from the Bolton hospital website.

Blue badge holders

Please provide your full, correct vehicle registration, along with your badge at either main reception or the iFM Bolton car parking office at Shawcross House, or call 01204 390782.

Free parking will be valid until the Blue Badge expiry date and a vehicle only needs to be registered once for a permit to park until the blue badge expiry date. Blue Badge holders may register one vehicle for free parking at any one time.

Please note that the permit is only for the vehicle registered, and if a different vehicle is used to park that will need to be registered in the same way.
