MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

I booked on 28th Jan 2022 and was told delivery would be end May. Now the dealer says it's either June or July. Looking at the current situation on the Semiconductor chip supply chain, I will not be surprised if it further delays to the end of the year. Think we should consider ourselves lucky if we get delivery in the 3rd quarter. We know there is a problem, but the dealers changing delivery dates every 20 days is not a healthy business practice.

What I’m trying to figure out is why the dates are shifting from May>June>Sept….
From what I understand MG don’t build to order. Then we have shipping and semi conductor issues. However, have MG genuinely told dealers they’re going to slip? Or are dealers making a guesstimate themselves. The 5s now seem to have landed and dealers actually appear to have stock. ZS isn’t in the same place.

Don't forget though that the MG5 LR has been in production longer than new ZS and some of us who placed orders in the summer are still waiting for the MG5's to turn up, purely because of the way cars are allocated and the batch build process.

I may be wrong in my thoughts here but reading the pushback dates generally seems to be coming from Vanarama. who, it would appear have over committed to their customers. This would figure as they a leasing company not a MG dealership?. MG I would imagine are going to be concentrating on getting their dealerships stocked as that will be their priority.
I don’t think you are wrong at all to be totally honest.
I posted very similar feelings on a earlier post, in this very same thread.
Miles responded with a “Like” so I assume he agrees with our theory on this subject.
With a huge shortage in cars, you would not expect dealers to ship out long awaited customer orders to third party suppliers.
It’s just not plain common sense or good business practice for that matter.

Well hopefully matey the Zs LR will be next to hit our shores there has been a number of deliveries of MG 5 and there seems to be no shortage of the new Zs standard range. I've had 2 dealerships tell me I could take delivery of one in March. So hopefully Zs LR are not to long in the pipeline. Here's hoping ?

I’ve been wondering about Vanarama and how things are panning out with them:
  1. I got a really good deal at the time - is it too good and they are hoping I cancel?
  2. I was told that they’d placed an order for a number of cars which is why they could quote me the April delivery date. He said an order placed now would be a factory order and subject to up to a year for delivery - how can there be a 6 month delay when cars are still appearing in country?
  3. Aren’t Vanarama using a MG dealer to order through? Surely a company like Vanarama is still a customer to a dealer and a big one at that? Why would a dealer favour individual customers over a company who will continue to place big orders?
  4. Was the delivery date quoted when I ordered complete pie in the sky?
  5. Vanarama are still offering free charger install with new orders - when I queried delaying install of charger until closer to delivery date, I was told I’d probably have to pay the £350 as the grant stops at end of March. So are Vanarama are eating the cost of this after March? When I questioned the fact that they aren’t going to have all new orders installed by end of the month, they didn’t really have an answer for that! I’m going to keep pushing back on this one!
I genuinely don’t know the answer to these questions and they are just what’s going round in my head, which is why I posted them here. Thoughts?

@dmcn I'd be interested in how your above query goes. I have a charger installation booked before the end of March hopefully. They (chargedev) came to install on 21st Feb but bought the wrong charger, so am waiting for them to correct this. Had half an install completed (dedicated mini Consumer Unit and Type A RCBO). But having the charger installed kind of commits you, even if there are further delays. I'd be keen to know if you can delay the install without funding the Government Grant element. Especially as you say they are still offering free chargers, which for the most part won't get the Government Grant. I notice they have two sets of T&C's for the free charge point now, one if you ordered before a certain date and one if you ordered after.

I have also been wondering that...

Apparently Greenhous Fleet are the dealer (I order through Vanarama). Whether they are an approved MG dealer or not I'm not sure. Sam Luscombe didn't think so

Yeah - I agree, but I think this second wave of the face lift SE models will be a short lived affair.
The uptake of the SE models will be slightly slower, but once these cars are gone, there is going to be another long wait in line !.
A large number of original ZS EV owners ( like myself ) placed orders, wishing to upgrade to the LR face lift model.
But a large majority of these sales ( to it's loyal customers ) are now at a complete stand still due to the lack of deliveries to the dealers.
This is impacted on the dealers extra hard, because by MARCH the original ZS EV's would likely be up for sale on their forecourts by now and the funds from the face lift models in the bank.
But the plan for all parties has completely fallen over BIG time !.
This delay has come at the worst time possible for both the dealers, and the customers !.
Some customers will be forced to cancel their long awaited orders and this will leave them feeling both extremely frustrated and disappointed, that I am absolutely 100% sure.

My dealership is still optimistic for April but who knows. They arrive when they arrive. I've had my charging point installed, it would be really nice to have something to connect to it. lol ?

That will be the most expensive coral bed in the sea !.
No EV's on the ship, thank god.
Salt water and them HV packs .................... NOT a good outcome !.

We ordered a 5 back in September, we are currently being told after 2 delays that it is not expected until June at the earliest.

Hmm, I cancelled my ZS long range Trophy Connect order, after 4 months.

As others have said, zero communications from the dealer during that time (I rang and was informed it would be at least a further 2-3 months - I am quite disappointed but angry that they didn't let me know.) So, I have just bought a 2021 ex-demonstrator MG HS PHEV; the Exclusive has a much higher spec, btw: leather seats, motorised boot, ambient interior lighting and more - plus a lower price for a car with 300 miles on the clock (£28k).

For my local travel (<30 miles per trip) the HS PHEV should achieve my desire to drive full EV (using a 7kW home charger box) which I didn't investigate when ordering the long range ZS originally. So far, so good - I'm loving the HS PHEV drive + no range anxiety. Happy days.
