Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

Je ne vois pas de problème avec une machine virtuelle, j'ai besoin d'un accès Internet et de pouvoir monter un périphérique USB
Mais je ne l'ai pas personnellement essayé, je ne l'ai exécuté que sur Win 10 et Win 11
it works on a VM.
I had to do with the creation of 2 network cards... one towards the VCI because it emulates a network card on the PC.
and the other to my wifi :)

and everything rolls

There was a comment about a guide for software updates so I thought I'd write it here where all the other info is

To connect to the car you need a Vehicle Diagnostic Interface (VDI), from what I've read a VDI2 or VDI3 for MG4, I personally ended up getting a VNCI due to supply issues, it's also substantually cheaper
it's recommended to update connected via USB but I have done some connected via WiFi which worked fine

Once you have the interface you need to install the software on a windows computer, VCI manager & SIPS for software, VDS if you want diagnostics as well (VDS requires a more powerful computer, not sure what spec)
VDS zip password is VDS3
SIPS zip password is SIPS
(Google remove it otherwise)

Open
If you haven't got an account you need a company account to get the Offboard Diagnostic subscription, 1 hour is £5.92, 1 day is £16.24
When you have paid click top right where it shows your name then user profile, you'll see SNW this is the login for both SIPS & VDS

Some of the MG sites if you login it'll get you to change the SNW account password which also affects the software, if you get a long subscription it maybe advisable

Open the VCI manager, click connect (wireless connection will show signal, USB connection will show USB icon)

Once connected it'll change to a tick

Open SIPS, login using SNW details
View attachment 30586

click vehicle identification, it'll confirm VIN click yes
View attachment 30582

you'll get lots of error messages on the car as it checks the different modules, confirm car (EH32) click yes, it'll show the configuration of the car with different pages available on the left side
View attachment 30583

You can view current versions on the car Vs server by clicking ECU Information

Connect power to 12V battery (charger/maintainer) so battery doesn't go flat during an update

If updating a single module go to Programming and Config, this allows you to program, load the config, program a replacement module

If updating multiple go to One Press, select the ones you want or select all then click next

It'll say several calibrations are required after updating, I've used the car for a while without doing these but I have also done them, doesn't seem to be any difference either way

Can't currently update TBox due to requiring a USB to be used first, don't currently have access to these files or where they're stored for dealerships, I know where thanks to a dealership but I don't have a login

If you want/need to calibrate go to Routine & select required module
I did it today, thanks to you and a french "mentor".
It was simple, but I have to wait for power supply to update FVCM and IPK because updates take a while and I don't want to brick the unit.
Thanks a lot !

I just went to Screwfix same day pickup for a 12V charger similar to the Amazon one above. Any will do really.

I personally use an old one that I robbed off my father that's probably 30 years old

I have a more modern one but I've lost the croc clips as I mainly use it for sealed lead acid with screw terminals so just has ring crimps

Not great, paying the difference or asking for a refund?

Just updated IPK, says 29 mins, took 52 mins
So yeah a little slower than SIPS expected which is likely what the OEM VDI takes

Hi,
sorry to step in and ask questions regarding SIPS or overall SW updating.

I'm planning on updating my EU/GER LUX (R46) to latest versions, as my Dealer is not keen on doing it for free, even when i have some issues (like BT, HVAC Temperature, AA Volume issues after Voice promts from internal NAV a.s.o.). So I just ordered the matching OBD interface (should arrive soon), I have all Software needed (R63+Tbox+Instructions), already created account on this MG website (Account is as a person not company?!) and would likely give it a try.

Is there a recommendation how to proceed with the Updates? So for example at first update the Headunit, then TBOX and connect+update through SIPS.
I assume that nearly every Module would get some updates, but not sure if i should do them all at once and possibly are related/required. Or If I can do these Updates one by one, not sure if some calibration is needed.

Or is there a "walktrough" provided by MG on how to proceed.
Edit: saw the manual for FICM Updates by @haloweenhamster (good job btw for all the infos) :), still curious about the SIPS stuff. MCU is already 68.4.6.0, so newer than the updates provided through USB update. Is this meant with ECU Update, which would be a downgrade if executed as far as I understood so only AVN for the FICM.

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I just want to do it correctly and the MG4 should still work after the updates :).

Thanks guys!

Needs to be a company one for the software, personal only gives access to documents

Yep that'll be fine

You can do all of them, a selection or a single update if you wish
I personally do one press method and do all required
I've both calibrated & not calibrated after updates which didn't seem to make any difference

On the drive with the rest of the files & info

Via USB only do TBOX & AVN, the rest will be updated via SIPS

Sorry for inquisition, but a lot to absorb here:
VDS software via your google drive link?
So this enables you to access the master bms via canbus, (or your account login does.)
To parse the data into a different format would require tweaking the VDS software, or is this built
into VDS?
AFExx min and max above is over a set time period, user configurable, for an individual cell?
Are VDS capabilities evident without loging into Saic/MG server with an account? Just trying to decide if its what I want/need/willing to spent time on.

As you can tell I'm totally ignorant when it comes to computer software having been exposed briefly only to fortran in another life, before deciding chasing & surfing waves was more gratifying.
Thanks!

Umm I'm tired as I've just finished a long shift, will have to re read your message when I'm more awake 😂

SIPS is the dealer program for loading & configuring

VDS is the dealer program for diagnostic & test

Like SIPS you need a login to open the software

Hi everyone - first post here - such a great thread, many thanks for all the resources!

I purchased a VNCI diagnostic unit and managed to set up an account. SIPS worked without issue; however, I cannot for the life of me get VDS installed. Anyone else have issue with the installation of VDS?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello, I'm taking advantage of the latest messages to ask my question:Is it possible via SIPS or VDS to program new keys or for example to be able to activate advanced features... Like closing the windows when closing the car...?

THANKS

In what way?
You need to install the main program VDS-014.566.679.126 PW-VDS3.zip then the hotfix, currently VDS_014_CDC-hotfix017.exe

On my laptop it installed ok but when opened it took a long time for anything to appear and easily crashed the laptop when it did

On my PC it still took a little while to open but ran ok

If you can be a little more specific I might be able to help

Keys can be done via SIPS

Config like that unfortunately would be controlled by China as the configuration is done by a file that's downloaded from their server and then loaded to the car, we can't even load custom files even if we created them as far as I'm aware
If dealerships have an issue they write to MG China that can make changes in the backend to allow alternative files to be loaded

I figured it out. It was due to not being able to install .NET Framework 3.5. Actually, I ended up fixing it by creating a Oracle VM, now I just need to get the hardware working with the VM...

Update: No issue between the VM and OBD USB, device connected and recognised.

Question: has anyone managed to run VDS offline - I've been through the documentation and in theory it should be possible to run without the requirement to have an internet connection.
