Hi,

I can get a stonking deal on an Xpower at the moment (£25300 new). I’m aware of the potential vibration issue many are experiencing so have factored that into my decision (thanks for advice already given on that subject in another thread).

I already have an MG4 SE, so I’m aware of the general shortcomings of the MG4 and I can live with those.

I’d appreciate feedback on things people don’t like or have had problems with specifically with the Xpower, like; harsh ride quality, excessive rattling, bonkers insurance quotes, general hate from BMW drivers? 😂, anything other the infotainment being crap and the sort of things I’m already used to. I’d also like to know about positive stuff!

I’m pretty close to pulling the trigger on getting one in Camden Grey. I got an SE to escape my lemon Curpa Born, expecting not to like it, but I’m really happy with it!

Should I upgrade? I really don’t want a repeat of the Born experience! For the vibration issue I’ll get it in writing before signing for it that they will fix it if it has that problem within a month or I want my current car back. I’ll ask for the same written agreement about the latest updates for the car. Though to be fair the dealership I’m using is really good for after-sales support!

Had my X Power nearly 6 months now.
I know there have been problems with the X Power, particularly the vibes.
But I honestly can't fault mine, I actually look forward to driving it. Needless to say the acceleration is mind blowing. But it's more than just that. It's an all round great motor. 🙂👍

I find the vibration is a lot less in eco mode prob as the front motor isnt running.

Couldn't comment on that, never been in Eco mode. Normally have it in Normal mode. Which to be honest is all you really need. But if I'm really in the mood, then it's Sports mode. 🙂👍

My SE is a great car really. To drive it’s like a cross between the ID.3 and Curpa Born (ride wise). I actually find the SE easier to live with than the ID.3 and especially the Cupra Born.

Apart from the boot leaking and it shuddering whilst constantly speeding up and slowing down at 70 mph+ with ACC engaged; the Born had wipers that splashed water into your line of sight, insisted you log in every bloody time you got in the car, before you could even turn LKA off (or do anything actually) and the ADAS on it were so over reactive they were dangerous. It would erroneously emergency brake at least once a week to the point I was scared what it would do in certain situations 🙁

My MG4 has never done anything like that (other than LKA).

You have well documented some of the positives and negatives but you have to ask yourself do I "need" it or do I "want" it. When it was first announced I thought " yes I want that " when considering the drives I normally do then I reckoned I would only use its attributes less than 5% of the time for some ill considered overtaking which I would not have done , not having it . Would it , make you try manoeuvres just because ??? Only yourself can decide what type of driver you are : if you think it would enhance your capabilities , go for it.
From here to Brive there is a glorious stretch of road ( 18 km ) bendy , twisty , which if clear of traffic, there would not be much in it between a SR and a X power . For the SR, when catching up slower traffic, there are in reality only 3 overtaking spots , for the X power , 2 more , but even then , a bit dodgy, especially considering another X power might be coming the other way. Dual carriageways , no competition, not worth mentioning. TBH if I had one I think the Gendarmes would be knocking on the door on a regular basis , so I'll stick with the more calming lower spec version.🤪

X Powers ride is in no way harsh.
Firm yes, but supple and very well judged IMO.

I have zero rattling but my seat squeaks.
Nothing that a bit of silicone spray won't sort out.
Usually lasts two weeks before re application is required.

My insurance is less than £400.

I don't get hate from any other drivers afaic.

Plenty like to try it on but are dispatched very quickly and humanely.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend an X Power.

Sort out your graphic equaliser and virtual sub and the sounds reproduced are very good. (IMO)

I'm very used to all the 'quirks' of the infotainment and can quickly an easily turn off LKA at the start of every journey.

In fact @Doug C bought one on my recommendation and is very happy with it. (No Vibes either!)

Be prepared to be completely blown away by the available performance.

I've had plenty of 500+ bhp cars in the past, and this car is extremely impressive in the way it gets its power down.

Still makes me giggle when 'The Beans' are deployed.

Absolutely nothing comes close for the money.

I had a little of that 'vibration' around 70mph but it turned out to be due to a 6 psi differential between tyres. It had been delivered like that. It's been fine since I equalised the pressures. There are (not very many) faster cars around but the way the X Power takes off like a scalded cat is amazing.
My Tesla is more comfortable but the X Power is a lot more fun.

Thanks for the replies. No horror stories 😁

Tbh I love strong acceleration. I’m not too bothered about cornering or track type performance as you never get the chance on the roads these days anyway. So long as it’s not crashing though potholes and rattling, it sounds right up my street.

Looks like I’m joining the Xpower club 👍

If it's for the built in vibrator/massager function, there is a thread about getting this feature at a lower price point MG4 Central vibration/rattle

Personally, I'd love to buy one ...... till my licence evaporated at the same rate as my bank balance, I have enough trouble keeping the 51 at the legal speed limits, that extra motor and performance ..... It would be a lot of fun, and really shut up all the EV doubters once they had a drive ..... and track days and ........ I haven't even been able to talk myself out of wanting one, have I?

After a shaky start to X-Power ownership a year ago (brake module failure at 300 miles, months with dealer trying to sort the vibrations), 14k miles in and we are still enjoying it. All the software and 'safety' feature issues you'll be aware of from your SE ownership.

As others have said, suspension is very compliant (I would argue too soft given the power on tap). Car rides, grips and handles much better once the OEM tyres are ditched for something decent (we had ours changed to Michelins by dealer FOC to help out with the vibes issue).

We upgraded the speakers in ours to focal items and added lots of sound deadening to the front doors which has transformed the sound system (still thinking about adding an active sub) and had a tow bar fitted (great tow car for our garden trailer - much better than our Tesla model 3).

When it's all working, nothing can touch it for performance vs cost so at the price you've been offered, snap it up!

Picked mine up for pretty much the same price in January this year. So far faultless, zero 'vibes' at any speed, no rattles etc

I’m sorely tempted to upgrade mine. I’ve no idea if I’ll appreciate it though as I don’t think it’s BAD per se at the moment. But maybe I don’t know what GOOD sounds like? Y’know?

Sorry for the derail OP, do it BTW, if you’ve test driven one and know what you’re getting into and would LIKE the power, get it.
Overkill is underrated 😬

Don't want to derail the thread either but just think more clarity, depth and stereo separation. Much needed to cover up all the rattle and creaks :ROFLMAO:

I've often thought the same, also about other folks moans and wants, etc.....

Better stereo
Better brakes
Better seats
Better interior quality
Better rubber etc etc all just equals

BIGGER PRICE.

I went into MG ownership with my eyes wide open and don't feel like I've had my pants pulled down. (Apart from you know what)

Let me qualify that....

I didn't at the start, but now Brand Spankers are being had for under 30K, my butt does now feel a bit exposed to the air.

That metaphor is now out of my head and into yours.
Enjoy. 🤣

An image I wasn't expecting or needing this fine Friday 😉
