Has Anyone experienced the charger flap not unlocking and refusing to open? Mine has this problem intermittently…of course… the fault was witnessed and addressed by the dealer who replaced the solenoid which was supplied a few weeks later by MG China under warranty…..However a few days after the fix it has decided to repeat the problem🤬 my assumption therefore is that it is probably a software problem. There is no manual release for the charger flap which must be a design flaw like the non operation of the roof by the fob. Unlike cheaper EV’s, one such being the Volvo C40 I previously owned…….software updates occurred regularly, three times in the first three months……..you are advised by the cars dashboard screen and do the update in the car by you, the owner. Not so with MG, this function is only done by the dealership so how do we, the owners know an update is required…………Is that once a year in Australia or once every two years as per the MG maintenance schedule? Come on MG, how many updates are waiting for my Cyberster? it is six months since being released in Australia and I have not heard a word from anybody. It is a very expensive ornament if you can’t open the charge flap……Help !!

I heard about this issue with others. In terms of updates still shocking theres no OTA. But the capability is there within Cybersters menu. Volvo is a Chinese owned company. So the whole cant do it because China excuse is no longer valid.

Hi GTE….thanks for your input I will persevere but MG Australia don’t appear to be very savvy re the Cyberster. I sent the MG UK link to my dealership because it has a 280+ page pdf owner manual with plenty of detail that doesn’t seem to exist in oz… so they printed a copy for me & it is now with a local book binder for me. The on line version is poor, like my memory and I need a hard copy. If you hear anything about solving my charger flap issue I’d certainly appreciate it.
This is such a relatively minor issue but it poses massive consequences.

Yep, I checked the not very helpful Australian version manual when it first happened and I tried that ………does’t release the electronic lock though as the experts at the dealership also discovered 🤬so unless each country has different specs………So it does look like a design oversight to me 👎! I did mention in my post that MG Australia and the Chinese Head Office decided on a solenoid problem and sent a replacement………….I think one of them might have suggested the little puller in the boot if that was the fault Eh! But thank you for your input. When MG & my local dealership work it out, I will add a post on the Forum

Good morning, the same thing happened to me, but only once, and it hasn't happened again. When I locked the car and opened it again, it let me open the lid, but it's true that I got quite a scare. I haven't tried the manual opening located in the trunk to see if it works or not. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how it can be solved.

The emergency release in the trunk is for the charge connector (it manually withdraws the Type 2/CCS connector locking pin) it has no effect on the charge flap door. That has a separate lock arrangement. The Cyberster charging flap and connector looks identical to MG 4. In the UK the charge flap has been an issue freezing in the winter.
See thread, Frozen Charging Port Door? (Flap) In that thread there is information on opening the flap

I am so sorry that I can’t speak Spanish Danielo and I’m unable to translate as I don’t know anyone in my small Queensland town/village that does……….but gracias 😊 for replying to my post 👍

Hi, You are spot on with your summary and thank you very much for advice re Frozen Charge Port Door…………I will seek out the thread toot-sweet 👍……………just for the record where I live in sub-tropical Queensland in the 30 years I’ve lived here the lowest mid winter temperature I have experienced in the early morning 5am was 7°C but as soon as the sun rises it is anywhere between 18°C - 26°C so no freezing 🤗. Cheers.

I need to correct myself. Tested at my Cyberster. The little string in the trunk is indeed only relaesing the charger cable but does not do anything to the flap.
Have no winter here either, hardly any day lower than 30 degree.

@Roger M, I thought there wouldn't be a winter as such with frosts where you are.
I hoped the thread might be useful as it shows in the UK how we are dealing with charging flap issues.
I presume in your case that when you press on the flap to open it, the flap moves but won't release. The mechanism for that works like a press button pen, once it's open you can see how it locks onto the spigot on the flap itself. The rectangle object below this I think is a magnet that is used to operate the hall effect sensor switch for the "charging port open" alarm.
You might be able to lubricate the spigot when it's open which will have the effect of getting into the lock mechanism when its shut again.

Good morning, I'm sorry I wrote in Spanish, but I'll try to make myself understood in English. Where I live there is usually no frost and the car is in a garage, so there is never any frost. My problem was with the charging cover, not with the cable. If the problem with the cover not opening happens again, do you know how to fix it? Thank you.

Hi again………..Thank you and yes the thread is useful to a point but I seem to have two issues. The electronic lock and now the push push spigot is being temperamental too 🤬. the initial problem is If you lock and unlock the central locking while standing next to the charge port you can hear the mechanism operate with a click in the port on both functions, then the push-push to open and or close…….the problem is that intermittently there is no audible click and the flap doesn’t move, it remains firmly shut even when pushed again and again! Then by locking and unlocking several times it might eventually release as it has done for me on some occasions. However, twice it has remained stubbornly locked……..On one occasion I waited for half an hour, then went back to the car & the flap had opened, it had opened by itself. The second time this occurred and after waiting half an hour it unlocked with the central locking system. I have had the car four months & returned it to the dealer twice…..it will be the third time next Friday week for the same issue. I will post a report following the visit. To date, four times I have unlocked the car on the driver door button….sat in the driver seat and there illuminated on the screen in front of me is shown CHARGE PORT OPEN…….so now what…………..got to be software 😩

Hi Danielo……..Your English is good and yes we have the same problem so we have two MG Cyberster on opposite sides of the world exhibiting the same charge port issue……a minor thing with major consequences………Come on MG this needs fixing.
Cheers Danielo you are not alone.

Aside from protecting against vandalism of charge port and the lock mechanism needing car unlock like any other car. It looks like they complicated it more with software involved. Ive never seen this issue on any other cars. The cars been out 5-6 months in UK. Wonder if there are any software updates since. Since OTA is still unavailable

You might already mentioned this and/or tried it :-). But have you tried pressing in/putting pressure on the charge flap and then unlock the car when this happens. That sometimes helped on my old Tesla - on the charge port and frunk.

I just spoke to the workshop manager about the problem with the cargo cover. He tells me that it is a problem that occurs in other MG models. It is a simple mechanism where a spring intervenes which makes the door open or not, and sometimes it fails. He has asked me for a new mechanism to change it in my Cyberster, I hope it does not fail again. I will keep you posted.

Thanks Buddy, Yes I have…and zilch 👎
cheers 🍻

Very interesting……….is this being done under the MG warranty? Because I have had the solenoid mechanism replaced by MG and I still have the problem………temporary measure is to have MG disconnect the electronic lock while they sort it out but I am still waiting
Hello, yes, the car is under warranty, and they told me they'll replace the mechanism without any problem. I hope this doesn't happen again. Good luck with your problem; I hope they fix it!
