    MG5 battery upgrades

The pioneer was the Lithuanian, Kaspars, in Salford, who told me how to do it. I'm looking forward to 200Ah modules, which will give a range to rival Teslas... Or someone who manages to fit 2 BPCs, giving maybe 500mi/800km range!

    Battery isolation fault help

I can recommend the Iso-Tech IDM505 for this purpose, which is an inexpensive 5.5 digit (100,000 count) large handheld multimeter (APPA 505) with 0.015% basic DC V Accuracy. For those on a budget, you can get a cheapie 6000 Chinese for £15, calibrate it to 4.000V and check it regularly. (so...

    MG5 battery upgrades

I know this forum is more people using their MG's, rather than taking them apart/rebuilding them, but here goes. I bought what was possibly at the time the cheapest whole MG5 cat N (damaged, non-structural) in Oct 2023, for £5400, and paid £500 for (almost) all the parts to repair the front end...

    Home Charging Solutions

I put in a (shuttered) 32A blue socket near where I park, As I have a lot of PV, this allows me to charge up to 8kW (My grid voltage is elevated when the sun is out!) You need the correct cable (Type 2 - commando (32A) plug) Advantage is components are cheap, if you can get some excess Armoured...

Not proud of it, but hit 0% battery range a mile from home and made it back!!!!

DEFINITELY not recommended, When I first got my MG5 I thought I would reach the chargers at M3 j1 (Sunbury cross) got to 0% within view of the j1 sign (about 2km from the junction) and it cut out completely!!! (not even charging the 12V) stuck there for nearly 3 hours in December, when it was...

    Range

Hi Anon70, 3.0mi/kWh is awful, I get that in my MG5 when I'm really booting it. my average over 5,800 miles is 3.3, but on a recent trip from London - Poole Harbour, 102.4mi I managed 4.8, which is amazing efficiency in a 1.8t (loaded) estate. I was doing 50-60mph in traffic, trying to stay...

Impact of KERS on tyre wear

I think it's hilarious the Chinese call regen KERS!!!? KERS was a system developed for F1 "Kinetic energy recovery system" which used a vacuum flywheel ("kinetic energy") and revolves at up to 64,500 rpm. Note "Kinetic" which is the energy of something MOVING. Regen is simply converting the...

    Fasten seat belt warning

I get it ALL THE TIME, I guess it's luck of the draw, I would guess something to do with how tired your seat springs are, and the placement of the sensors. Mine go off when I have NOTHING on the seats!! Really annoying You could always get your service garage to disconnect the weight sensors...
