A 20-month old new car!

I collected my new MG4 SE LR from the dealership yesterday. I got a large discount though it now appears even larger discounts are available. I found the certificate of conformity in the glovebox which says the car was manufactured 20 months ago in January 2023. Which gives me concerns about how it was stored and the affect on battery health. The battery was showing 97%.

I'm surprised because, with the MG4 selling so well in the UK I wouldn't have thought they'd be unsold right-hand drive stock that old lying around. I got the impression it had come from some central stock, been delivered to one branch and then driven to my local branch where I collected it. Along the way it got separated from its charging cable. My local branch has supplied me with type2-type2 one. (Wallbox is on order so that's probably best.)

I'l get a photo of the software versions, but the first versio number on the screen ended "R16". I drove it around yesterday and nothing untoward happened. When I first got in the car, it asked me for date/time and then something about intelligent battery heating. I think I chose the cancel option for that after reading here that it takes a lot of charge. However, I've worked my way through the settings and can't find that setting or any others regarding the battery e.g. nothing about setting a limit on charge level such as 80%.

Tbh I'd be asking them to do all the updates, they've calmed down the LKA, improved display & controls etc

You should be able to access the charge limit by tapping the battery level pane on the home screen. If you have bound the car to your iSmart account then you can do it through the app.

Finally, you definitely have an LR?

1100R33 is the latest software for the SE, and well worth having. Just complain that your Infotainment has a safety issue in that the external temperature is not displayed - something which has been part of even the cheapest cars for decades.

1100R13 = external temperature, in 1°C increments
1100R16 = none
1100R21 = none
1100R33 = it's back, in 0.5°C increments

I wouldn’t worry too much. As others have said grab the updates. I remember new Rovers being sold in 2008 - the factory really never sent out a new car after around Oct 2005, it’s just that you know it’s been done.

Not that I know but you can expect it takes a decent while for them to produce enough cars to fill a ship (I’m guessing a few months), then they need to load the thing, sail for 2 months, offload and then distribute. The batteries are hardier than often given credit for - I’d worry more about the 12V battery being old but that’s a small small part but even that - they have disconnects on when shipping (which would disconnect it and remove majority of loads from the car full
Stop).

Re charging cable - there was some kerfuffle a while ago where they didn’t have granny chargers to supply as I recall so did give a type 2 - it may have been one of those and was never actually missing? I needed a long granny cable so bought the Screwfix one for a good price and used it for a month or so, handy to have for a trip or backup for the EVSE. Enjoy the car.

I picked my MG4 up on 12th August and the certificate of conformity says it was manufactured in May 2023. I've not noticed anything unusual given the amount of time it would have been in storage. Battery/Range is perfectly fine and more or less as expected.

Was the CoC date starting with 05? If yes then May 2023 will be right; if no then you've misread it.

e.g. 12/05/2023 is actually December 5th 2023.
