Hey does anyone know if there's any way that I can update my Trophy's system software at home? I don't live near any of the dealerships and I think mines quite outdated now...

Most updates are done via SIPS using a VDI

Which can be obviated by downgrading the Info software back to what it was before you take your car in for any warranty work.

Most modern cars for the last years have logs for any software/firmware changes to aid fault analysis.

That assumes they'd even try looking at logs ... it's MG "trained" techs we're talking about.

With a vin number I can look up update logs, at the moment it only shows modules not USB updates, guess it would need OTA updates to see FICM update logs

There's also several levels of login to get the info, it's possible that techs could access service history but not the update logs, without a techs login it's hard to say what they can access

Why explain ?

As you can see from the link I shared previously it's possible to order an interface & pay for a login for the software to connect to the car
Several people & I have updated everything bar the TBOX at home, as with updating any device there's risk but it is possible and very easy to accomplish

99.8% of MG4 owners do not gave the wherewithal to mess with the programming of their car and dealing with the subsequent risk of bricking it

That's true but if someone asks if it's possible to update at home then the answer is still yes
If people don't wish to do it then that's up to them, it doesn't change the fact that it's possible

Yes, good advice would be to not attempt if you are not confident, technically savvy and willing to take the risk.
