Autohold fail message.

Done bloke looking ?. Have seen posts including start up error messages that clear with reset or reboot ( or patience), but can't find this one.

I didn't bother with the autohold feature for the first couple of months after taking delivery but then thought I'd give it a go. Got used to it and thought it fairly fine.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, had "Autohold fail, see manual" message a few times when starting. It is no longer working. It is switched on. I have switched it off/on, to no avail. Have consulted manual, also to no avail.

I don't have any other problems/error messages ( touching a huge piece of wood, 1000 mile holiday round trip coming up ? ) .
It's no biggie as I'm perfectly capable of driving it without the feature, but was just wondering if anyone has any idea what might be afoot ? ?

I get these occasionally usually if I don't give it time to initialise fully before setting off. Normally at the next start I am patient enough for it to work ok.

Yes, thanks for that. I am aware of the need for patience and always take my time letting it power up and initialise in order to then set my preferred settings ( every.damn.time.!!) and since the messages, even more so. I'm thinking I've seen a reset of the infotainment system referred to somewhere and will maybe give that a try ( if I can remember how?)

I get various error messages, including auto hold, come up if I accidentally catch the brake pedal as I get in. All the messages do disappear when it finishes booting up though.

You could try the home key reset but I doubt that will be it.

There is always the VBH to consider?

What about a Factory Reset?

Then move onto the 12v Disconnect.

I would miss Autohold TBH.

Now you're talking. Coming from the industrial heartlands of the West Midlands there ain't nowt I can't fix with the VBH and duct tape ??

I, like everybody else, get this message sometimes when the software boots. I've never had an actual fault with the autohold though, i think it is a rogue message that doesn't reflect any issue with the car - this of course isn't great, but it could be worse.

I had this for the first time last night alongside the rear traffic assist failure also. Got in the car just like any other day, centre screen stayed completely black alongside the warnings.

Screen finally came back after soft resetting a couple of times, but it's happened again this morning, really confused as to why.

I've got an appointment at my local MG garage this Friday for an update so definitely going to bring this up.

I get errors like these along with the blank screen quite regularly and tend to ignore them because, if I wait, the warning triangle disappears. The info screen then comes to life or, if it does not, I touch the brake to put the car into ready mode or press the home button. I put it down to the startup sequence 'hiccuping' with an error that requires one module to restart and that throws out the sequence. It's similar to Windows telling you 'getting windows ready' when it going through it's startup sequence and it needs to check/update something.

It seems as if it's staying blank on mine but if I wait it eventually boots up on its own. Sometimes it can take over a minute to boot up and it nearly always does this when in an underground car park.

The autohold fault is the only one I see regularly, and it's pretty infrequent. I just get out, lock the door, wait about five second, then unlock and get in again. Unless it's pissing down with rain, when I just drive without the autohold.

To avoid getting out you can power cycle from the info car/safety tab and use the brake to power up again.

Interesting that yours happens when underground, maybe something to do with the signal strength. I see other people have complained about the hotspot not working properly recently, wonder if there is any link there.

But thanks for the reply, gives me some relief knowing it's not just my car doing this. But I have to admit waiting 5+ mins for the screen to come to life isn't ideal!

Mine does that. It seems that if the auto lights switch the lights on causing the infotainment screen to change from light to dark mode before its finished booting up you get a blank screen and visa versa. Pressing the home button for a couple of seconds brings it back.

I have mine on the dark setting anyway.
I usually turn auto lights off but usually when the system has booted up, next time I'll try flicking it off as soon as I get in before it's booted up to see if that makes it boot up faster. ?

Thanks for all the responses. Seems to be that everyone experiences a delayed start up or variance thereof. No-one else getting yer actual full on failure of autohold to function post message/messages, i.e some kind of patience or reset clears it up.
Ah well, it's good to be special ??

P.s. was an IT 'engineer' for 30 years and am fully familiar with the need for the system to pull it's finger out and get on with it.... My missus on the other hand. Many is the time I've said " bit slow loading is it ?" to whit the response "yes" ( tapatapatapatap)
" well stop hitting it then and go and make a cuppa..." fine by the time she gets back ?

We had an Autohold fail message on ours last week. 2 days later we couldn't open the car (only bought it a week and half prior). Had to manually unlock and charge the 12v battery before taking it on a run. I suspect a dodgy 12v battery on ours, going to put it in for it's first service (bought used), see what any updates do but then potentially look at swapping out the 12v battery under warranty if we see an issue again. So maybe keep an eye on the battery voltage in the driver display (shows with the tyre display or in app) and see if its heading down towards 12v as that may be a culprit. Aaron

Thanks Aaron, will do. Bought one of those neat little 12v battery back-up things, just in case. Seems a worthwhile investment considering the potential problems 12v battery can give rise to.
And there was 10 months between car manufacture and me taking delivery as "new". Who knows what problems that may cause with the battery or what actions they take to ensure it doesn't?
