So day 2 with X-Power back from the garage and it’s now stuck on my driveway.

When I get in, around 20 alerts scroll through the display, everything from abs failure through to every safety system disabled.

Eventually it lets me select drive but the parking brake is still on - display says to manually release parking brake but this doesn’t work. Same in reverse.

I’ve ensured the 12V battery is charged, terminals are tight. I’ve also tried disconnecting the battery, waiting then reconnecting but get the same thing.

Due to drive to a family get together today but clearly not going to get there and service department of dealer closed now till Monday

Do these cars come with AA cover? I wasn’t told or given any details on collection so if anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated.

Not a great start to ownership:(

Sorry to hear this, you may have done the following but here is my suggestion. It has happened to me, because sometimes if you dont let the car go through its start up procedure, it can do this.

I therefore suggest you lock it and leave for 10mins. Then open and get back in, but dont start it, let it cycle through until both screens are showing information/data etc and then system ready should show. Then foot on brake and see if you can then start, if still showing all the warnings then it is a garage issue, unless someone else has another suggestion.

MG Assistance no is 08000723338 just need reg number

What voltage reading have you got on the 12V battery? This really smacks of a 12V issue.

12.9v but I’ve put my decent intelligent charger on and it says it’s fully charged

AA on way. Got all the hallmarks of 12V issue I agree - if AA agree I’ll try n get one locally and bill the dealer for it as apparently batteries fitted are very poor quality?

Also getting following warning on the MG Smart app, each time I try and start the car.

“The brake system of your vehicle (***633) has triggered an alarm”

AA confirmed not 12V battery. Disconnect doesn’t work. Car fully stuck. OBD2 reader struggling to connect. Brakes won’t release so will be fun getting it on a low loader.

300 miles the car lasted.

Thats not good, they should have some skates to put under the wheels for loading or lift it with a crane. Please keep us updated how you go on and the eventual outcome.

Dealer has an interesting email in his inbox for Monday.

Car will have to be recovered.

So disappointing - had the car 7 weeks but only been able to drive it for 4 days.
Very sorry to hear about all this, what a nightmare start, to your X Power ownership. Hope when this gets sorted you'll finally have a decent motor.
(Vibes notwithstanding) ??

Just hope they find what has caused this fault as my wife is seriously unimpressed- she’ll be driving it as much as me and is now worried she’ll get stranded somewhere.

Have said to the dealer if they can’t definitively specify what has caused this break down then we’ll have to reject it

So to update this one. I had the email of the MG master tech so pinged him an email on Saturday late afternoon and really surprised when he came back with helpful advise.

Said he’d never had this type of fault before but advise disconnecting the 12V and the HV battery (just involves removing a small plug after disconnecting the 12V battery and leave overnight before reconnecting).

This enabled the parking brake to be manually released but the faults all relating to the braking system remained - so basically every feature that needs to apply the brakes autonomously, is unavailable. So no ABS, stability or traction control and no regen at all (plus all related ‘safety’ systems down) but at least I can now limp the car to the dealer tomorrow.

Worried they won’t actually find a fault and will do the old reset and hope it doesn’t happen again method which isn’t a fix as means we could be stranded again at any point.

Guess we’ll let them try n fix and reject it if it happens again.

Not having much luck with this one :(

Just be careful on this one, your insurance may be invalid in the event of a mishap when driving with these known faults.

Got it back to the dealer. Apparently they are struggling to communicate with it (and me as I was supposed to have update before they just closed but radio silence).

Given an MG3 courtesy car with a flat battery and empty fuel tank - nice to know I'm a valued customer......

Jesus! MG dealers do seem to treat there customers with utter contempt! ?

So got email from the technician and it looks like the integrated brake control system module has gone down - apparently a first on any MG4 model (guess I’m just lucky!)

Will find out hopefully tomorrow how many more weeks or possibly months we’ll be without the car, again as the replacement module will be coming from china, assuming they have stock.

Might even get to 400 miles when we eventually get it back.

Regarding trying again to reject the car, what are people’s thoughts on how long is unacceptable for the repair to be completed?

Pretty sick of all the stress it’s caused so far, plus all the time off work to date it’s cost me.

Repairs must be completed in a reasonable time. There is no clear definition of reasonable, but I believe the guidance notes to the Consumer Rights Act 2015 indicate that 30 days should apply, in the absence of any other prior agreement between the parties.

At a minimum I would be demanding a courtesy car of equivalent specification for the duration ... an MG4 Trophy LR at least.

Sorry if this has been covered already.
Do you have finance pcp or loan on the car? If so have you informed the lender of the situation? As far as Im aware, they also have rights in this situation, because technically they own the car.
Same applies if its leased.
I did this years ago and they put pressure on the dealer, to resolve quickly.

No we own the car outright.

I’ll wait until I have the estimated time of completion of the fix and decide then whether to go the rejection route. Just paid £430 on ceramic coating so will be fighting for compensation if we do have go down this route.

So amazingly the failed braking module is in stock with MG UK so fix estimated to be ~10 days so we'll let them try. In the interim have demanded a like-for-like courtesy car as the MG3 is diabolical so waiting to hear on that.

If this does fully fix it, at least the master technician (really helpful bloke to be fair) has confirmed that he has checked & put every module update available on the car and put R59 on it so might work as well as any MG4 can be expected to (or introduced a whole new raft of different bugs lol).
