Cables that came with MG5

I've read with interest that the cars don't come with charging cables. When I picked up my 5 from the showroom, in the boot were those.

Yup, they all come with a granny cable and Affinity gets a Type 2, and some dealers have been known to throw one in anyway (often as a bargaining freebie, like mats etc)

I don't think my dealer liked me - he even quoted me £105 for mats when they're priced at £74 and change on the MG website.

At least 2 of the leasing companies include a type2 cable as standard, some also include a home charge point. A result of past customer criticism that they expected the car to come with one.

My previous car was ex-lease, it had a box full of car goodies supplied by them - warning triangle, some wax, glass cleaner etc etc etc. All intact and unused at 3 years old.

I got a granny and a type 2 cable with mine, that I bought new in September.

If it doesn’t have both ask the dealer to supply you with them as part of the deal

Mine only came with the granny charger and from what I hear the type 2 cable that MG sell is the wrong cable for the FL. (It works but can't get 11kW.)

It’s not ‘wrong’, it’s a single phase 7kW cable that will do the job on every type 2 EVSE.

However if you want to achieve the max AC charging rates you need both a 3phase EVSE supply and a 3phase cable.

Very few homes are wired that way but it certainly speeds things up when using 22kW public destination chargers.

I should have used the phrase "sub-optimal".
I actually used my 3 phase cable the other day at the York park and ride. I was pleasantly surprised to get close to 11kW.

My dealer isn't parting with anything they don't have to on this deal!! It's probably the last of the bargain Trophys to be collected.

I have a 7 kW one and there is a granny which came with the car which Motorway are having - never used it but sod's law and all that - which is why I was asking.

Presume a 22kW would still work on a 7kW charger? My public charging is so rare its's hardly worth the cost of a new cable - but the car has sold for more than I was expecting so I have some financial leeway!!

Yes, a 22kW cable will charge max 7kW on single phase, however a 11kW cable only about 3.5kW in the same scenario

Got my car in September and got a granny charger, 7kW cable & floor mats.
Got home and then found a 3 phase Honda branded cable under the boot floor!
Don’t think they knew it was there so I’m not going to raise the subject with them.
