CD Player for our new 2024 MG4 Luxury

So, for Christmas, I bought my wife a (not cheap!) CD Player with output as FM or BT. The FM is "OK" but interference is inevitable. So I want to use Bluetooth. However, despite easily connecting to the car's BT, it displays a message that it is unable to play from this device. I understand that this is likely to be the fact that the MG4 is only expecting a phone to be connected and hence does not support the A2DP standard.
In any case, can any of you recommend a CD player that does work in the MG 4 ?
Meanwhile the Christmas present will have to be returned as it does not work as expected.

You would probably be better off ripping the CD's to one of the cars supported audio formats (MP3, AAC, WAV, APE, FLAC) and copying to a USB flash drive as you could probably get the contents of around 100 CD's on a 64GB USB device which you can use in any car with a USB connector. 64GB USB drive is about £6 from Amazon or you could go for over 950GB (1,400 CDs) for less than £20

Yes; had we spoken 10 years ago, this is exactly what I did. However, today, none of our 4 computers (Apple Macs and Windows) have a CD player. I agree I could buy a CD player then rip them to MP3. But this is my wife you see; she likes her CDs and she likes to be able to take them out of the cover and place them in the player etc.
For me; yes MP3s ... but for her .. CDs !!

Thank you Anon70. You have stirred me into searching my (large) SSD for the ripped albums that I did around 10 years ago. I have found them and, whilst my wife would like some additional albums added; the solution works perfectly. Plus the sound quality is so much better than the "tinny" radio in the MG4.(But that's another story). Thank you all again. I think the problem has been solved

I gave my usb cd drive a go, it powers and spins up the disc but the car doesn’t recognise there being anything there unfortunately.

Bought an excellent Mechen M30 player inc 64 GB expandable memory from Ali Baba for £30. Doing great work in my car plus has headphone output so can go walkabout with you when you get there. Recommended.

I’ve never heard of deezer to be honest…

I understand why the MG4 doesn’t have a cd player but I would totally use it if it had one. Don’t forget some people have a lot of CDs left, a fair few of which probably won’t be on streaming services. And beyond that, having an album saved on a streaming service hits different, it’s just not the same.

Bit of topic in a way, but I remember how amazed we were in highshool to have a mp3 player with 64mb or even 128mb. Now I have
like 8 TB on my desktop and I’m running out of room. I saw The Slow Mo Guys on YouTube installed 1.9 petabytes in their NAS recently.

That's assuming you have a stable Wi-Fi connection and enough data allowance on your phone.

Exact Audio Copy to rip the CDs to MP3 format files.

Widely reported that CDs are making a comeback - based on fairly widespread claims that despite tech limitations

they often produce better sound than streaming sources. Good ones for £1 certainly getting rarer in the charity shops - but pleased with a find today (pic) But must say that my discs never leave the house and the car environment is not good for them.

I still have 1000+ sound is so much better than compressed mp3 formats. I do have most stored on a Brennen JB7 for easy access (non compressed). The nice thing about a CD is you can see it, touch handle and listen to your music.
Shame the ride in the MG5 is not smooth or I could play my LPs, but with all the potholes the pickup keeps jumping!

When I bought my first MG4, and before a software update, it would recognise all those formats. After update to R33 only MP3 was recognised. I had to change all the tracks on the USB stick. I experimented with several of the formats and only MP3 worked. TBH, I couldn't tell the difference in quality

Those were the days What about 8 track Sound quality was very good as it ran at twice the speed, no hissing. a bit big to store though, I suppose that's why compact cassettes were more preferable. It takes you back

Would it have not been more of a benefit to buy a usb dvd/Blu-ray rldrive and just rip the CDs ? There £23 on Amazon, then just copy them to a USB storage drive that's formatted in fat32 and the. Ise use the built in media player
